Dufferin Mall is a shopping mall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the west side of Dufferin Street, between Sylvan Avenue and Croatia Street (formerly Awde Street), south of the intersection of Bloor Street West, on the site of a former race track, in the Brockton Village neighbourhood.

Description

Dufferin Mall is a 567,000-square-foot (52,700 m2) regional shopping centre.

Anchored by H&M, Winners, Walmart, Toys 'R' Us and a No Frills – Dufferin Mall has over 120 shops and services. The Walmart location was a Woolco prior to 1994 and the No Frills location was an Eaton's until the mid-1990s.

History

The location had been occupied by the Dufferin Park Racetrack, a horse race track which operated from 1907 until 1955. The first shopping plaza on the site was established in 1956 and was named Dufferin Plaza Shopping Centre.[1] The shopping plaza was converted to enclosed mall space and renamed Dufferin Mall in the 1970s.

Transportation

The mall is served by the Toronto Transit Commission bus route 29 Dufferin, and is located one block south of the Dufferin subway station.

Controversy

The Instagram account "Dufferin Mall Official" parodied an official Dufferin Mall site. Dufferin Mall's official Twitter feed has made it clear that dufferinmallofficial is not the official Dufferin Mall Instagram account. In April 2016, the account posted the following: "Hello friends. Due to legal issues, there will be no more stickers and I have been forced to change the name of this blessed account." The account is now called themallwithitall.

In popular culture

The Dufferin Mall was used as a filming location for the Family Channel original series, Naturally, Sadie.

It was also featured in Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim Gets it Together.
