Career
Playing career
Evaristo played for Madureira and Flamengo before moving to Barcelona in 1957, where he stayed until 1962. Then, the Catalan officials tried to talk him into taking Spanish citizenship so he can play for Spain, but he refused. After this disagreement, Macedo accepted the offer from Real Madrid, and went to play for the rivals. Macedo had an brief tenure as manager of the Brazil national football team in 1985, and later was the head coach of the Iraq national football team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
