History

Freshslice Pizza at Centrepoint Mall

Ray J. Russell established Freshslice Pizza with a purpose of developing a new fast-food concept. His goal was to combine pizza delivery with self-serve dining.[1] The Freshslice franchising model is unique in that franchisees pay 0% royalty rates, 0% marketing royalties and are provided with free marketing materials. This is done through an in house dough manufacturing system that is the holder of Canadian patents. The head office also maintains a policy of accepting no "kick backs" from outside food vendors, allowing the franchisees to profit on the improved margin.

Freshslice has been awarded the Consumer Choice Awards for Business Excellence in 2007, 2008 and 2009.[2][3] In 2013 it was awarded the Best By The Slice in Vancouver by Georgia Straight Magazine. In 2011 the company was issued a court order to pay $44,000 for hiring illegal workers.[4] In 2013 they began expansion outside of the greater Vancouver market within the province of British Columbia for the first time, expanding to Vancouver Island. In 2014 the expansion continued into the interior and north of British Columbia.
