Prof. Dr. Günter Corßen (6 February 1916 – 16 August 1990) was a highly decorated Oberstleutnant i.G. in the Heer of the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the German Cross in Gold and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded for conspicuous gallantry on the field of battle or outstanding military leadership above that normally expected by the recipients rank. After the war he studied medicine and emigrated to the United States of America. He practiced anesthesiology and advanced pain control medicine at Maricopa County General Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona and was a full professor of anesthesiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. His German Cross in Gold and the written orders conferring it are currently on display at the General George Patton Museum of Leadership, Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
