GTECH S.p.A. (ex Lottomatica S.p.A.) is an Italian company active in the gaming business and it is the license holder for the Italian National Lottery. The world's largest operator of lotteries[2] (its portfolio includes Italy's Lotto game), Lottomatica also provides various other gaming services and related technologies. The company has its offices in Rome.

In August 2006, De Agostini Group completed the acquisition of GTECH Corporation, a U.S. gaming company. This transaction has created one of the world's leading gaming solutions providers, with significant global market share and the broadest portfolio of technology, services, and content solutions. GTECH manages many state lotteries in the United States and also has contracts to manage local and national lotteries in Europe, Australia, Latin America the Caribbean and Asia. It is controlled with a 59.8% stake by the De Agostini group.

GTECH's S.p.A. ticker symbol is GTK and listed on the Mercato Telematico Azionario in Milan, and managed by Borsa Italiana since 17 May 2001.

Current holdings

GTECH now control 63% of the worldwide online lottery business. With the acquisition of 2006 of GTECH Corp., the Company increased its global business activities due to a permanent presence of its employees in several countries throughout the world. GTECH S.p.A. has operations in 52 countries worldwide on every continent and deals with various ethnicities and nations with different levels of local employment laws. In order to meet these various requirements, GTECH S.p.A. complies with the principles of the International Labor Office’s Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and its social policy (Geneva 2000). In particular, the Company complies with all of the recommendations in the aforementioned declaration with regard to relations with staff in the various states.[3]

In July 2014, GTECH agreed to acquire American company International Game Technology (IGT), the world's largest slot machine manufacturer, for a total of $6.4 billion, including $4.7 billion in cash and $1.7 billion in assumed debt. The companies would be combined under a new holding company based in the United Kingdom, and the GTECH name would be dropped in favor of IGT.[4][5]

On April 7, 2015, GTECH completed its merger with IGT. the new combined company's name is International Game Technology PLC.[6]
