Genchovtsi is a village in Gabrovo Municipality, in Gabrovo Province, in northern central Bulgaria.[1]

Geographical location

The location of Genchovtsi is almost in the middle of Bulgaria. Located into a beautiful part of Stara planina, this village is 10 kilometers away from main city of Gabrovo. You can go to Genchovtsi, driving by the fourth class road, with many sharp turns and beech of trees. There is no regular public transport to the village.

History

Nobody knows, when exactly is founded the village of Genchovtsi. But by the words said of old people from the region, this village has been named to the three brothers, which are has been settled in the region. First of them is called Gencho (village of Genchovtsi). Second one - Bogdan (village of Bogdanchovtsi) and the third of them, Fargo (village of Fargovtsi). In the past, Genchovtsi is called Genchomaali - it is mean that was been something like a neighborhood or very small village. Another interesting fact is that many years before in the middle of Genchovtsi has been the graveyards.

Population

The population of Genchovtsi is variable in different months of the year. In the Autumn, the winter and the spring the population of the village is about 10 - 15 humans, principally old men and women over 70 years old. In the summer's months, many people which have villas comes from all Bulgaria's regions. Then the population of the village grows up to over 50 people.
