The Hattar are a Rajput clan, found in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

History

According to their traditions, the tribe claims descent from a Bhatti Rajput nobleman, a Rana Rajwadhan. The Rana lived in Ghazni, in what is now Afghanistan and then moved to Delhi in India. After sometime, he moved to Bhatner. In the 13th Century, the Rana moved to Chanb Kalyar, in what is now the Lodhran District, in Punjab, Pakistan. The ruler of the area was a Raja Bhutta. The Raja wanted to marry the daughter of Rajwadhan, who refused. As a result, a battle took place, and the Raja was slain. The tract was then divided by Rajwadhan, and his five sons, Kalyar, Uttera, Kanju, Noon and Hattar. From these five sons descend the five tribes, each named after the founder.^[1]

The descendents of Hattar are said to have left the Multan region, and moved to north west Punjab, where they are a now found as a Rajput tribe.

Distribution and villages

The Hattar are found in Sargodha, Jhelum, Gujrat, Chakwal and Attock districts of Punjab.

There main villages in Chakwal District are Hattar, Assami Hattar, Dhudial, Fim Kasar and Jethal, in Attock District & Haripur District, their main village is Hattar, and in Gujrat District, Hattar is their main village.

In Pind Dadan Khan Tehsil, their main villages are Dhok Hattar and Hattar, while in Sargodha District, their main village is Jalpana.

Other Hattar villages in Sargodha District in Bhalwal Tehsil include Chak no 15 and 16NB, while in Shahpur Tehsil, their villages are Rawal, Kake wala and Khurshaid.

Many Hattar migrated families from Chakwal are also living in Karachi Sindh in the Clifton Cantonment Area . Their main source of income is upon Government, Military and para military services like, Army, Air Force, Navy, Sindh Police, Rangers etc. It because their agricultural lands have no irrigation system like central Punjab. Their lands are dependent on rainfall for irrigation, therefore they left their homelands in search of better income resources.

In addition, a huge number, from these families, are also living abroad at Gulf countries like KSA, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman & Yemen. Hattar families are settled in Europe like UK, Turkey & France. Hattar families are also settled in North America like USA & Canada.
