Highland Wildlife Management Area
Highland Wildlife Management Area is a protected area located in Highland County, Virginia. It consists of three separate tracts of land, centered on Jack Mountain, Bullpasture Mountain, and Little Doe Hill, and is in total 14,283 acres (57.80 km2) in size. Most of the trees in the area are upland hardwoods, mainly oak and hickory. There is in addition an 80-acre (320,000 m2) tract on Jack Mountain that was once used as summer pasture land. Small clearings for wildlife and old logging roads provide additional open space. The elevations in the area range from 1800 to 4,390 feet (1,340 m) above sea level. The area is carefully managed to enhance wildlife habitat.
