T. M. Gathright Wildlife Management Area

T. M. Gathright Wildlife Management Area is a protected area located in Bath County, Virginia. The property is divided by Lake Moomaw, and encompasses 13,428 acres (54.34 km2) and three major mountains: Allegheny and Bolar Mountains to the lake's west, and to its east Coles Mountain. The lowest elevation is 1,400 feet (430 m) above sea level; the highest is 3,600 feet (1,100 m). The northwest boundary is marked at the crest of Allegheny Mountain, along the border between Virginia and West Virginia. A number of streams flow eastward from the summit, terminating at Mill Creek. The primary habitat is upland hardwood forest; some stands of mixed oak and hickory are the major types of tree, but tulip poplar may be found in some of the more fertile areas, as may a few open areas.
