Early life

Hubertus was born on 16 September 1975 at Hamburg, the elder son of Andreas, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and of his wife, Carin Dabelstein.[1] He studied Law at the University of Würzburg from 1997 to 1999. He attended the London School of Economics from 1999 to 2000 and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 2000 to 2003.

Marriage

Prince Hubertus married American investment banker Kelly Jeanne Rondestvedt (b. Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, 10 January 1975) civilly on 21 May 2009 in Coburg and religiously on 23 May 2009 at Schloss Callenberg in Coburg.[2] She is the daughter of Norwegian American Christian Robert Rondestvedt (1950/1951), Captain United States Navy, and his wife (San Diego, San Diego County, California, 7 April 1973) English American Cheryl Ann Forbes (San Diego, San Diego County, California, 6 February 1951), a teacher, daughter of George Thomas Forbes, Jr. (Brooklyn, New York, 1921 - La Jolla, San Diego County, California, 6 Dec 2011) and wife Jeanne Oncley (c. 1925).[3][4][5]

On 11 December 2013, it was announced that the couple are expecting their first child in late spring 2014. Their daughter, Katharina Victoria Elizabeth Cheryl, was born on 30 April 2014 in Coburg. Princess Katharina was baptized on 14 September 2014 at Schloss Callenberg. Her godparents are: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Prince Ernst August of Hanover, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, Countess Katharina of Faber-Castell and Prince Konstantin-Assen of Bulgaria.
Princess Kelly gave birth to the couple's second child on July 15, 2015. Their son, the future hereditary prince and head of the house, is called Philipp Hubertus Andreas Christian.[6] Prince Philipp was baptized on 14 November 2015 at Schloss Callenberg. His godparents are: King Philippe of Belgium, Countess Alexandra von Schönborn, Bernhard, Hereditary Prince of Baden, Prince Carl von Wrede and Carina Axelsson.

Current role

Prince Hubertus worked as a lawyer for a bank in New York specialising in wealth management.[7][8] At the beginning of 2012 he moved back from New York to Coburg where he is on the board of the family Foundation - the Stiftung der Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha'schen Familie.[9]

He does not have an official or state role. With his wife, he attends certain royal family events, such as the wedding of his second cousin Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.[10] The family seats, Schloss Callenburg in Germany and Castle Greinburg in Austria, are significant tourist attractions.
