Jagat Prakash Nadda is an Indian politician. He is currently the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare[2] and member of Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh and Parliamentary Board Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party.[3]Earlier, he was a Minister in Himachal Pradesh Government.[4]

Early Life

He was born on 2 December 1960 in a Brahmin family[5] to Dr. Narain Lall Nadda and Shrimati Krishna Nadda. He was educated at St. Xaviers School, Patna. Thereafter he did his B.A. from Patna College, Patna University and LL.B. from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. As a child, he represented Bihar State in the All India Junior Swimming Championship held at Delhi.[4] On 11 December 1991, he married Dr. Mallika Nadda and now the couple have two sons. His mother-in-law is former Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, Smt. Jayshree Banerjee.

Political Career

Jagat Prakash Nadda was inspired by the J. P. Movement to join the Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti. He was elected as the Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Patna University in 1977. In 1991, he was made the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.He was election In – charge, Youth wing, BJP during the Lok Sabha Elections, 1989 and May 1990. From 1998 to 2003, he served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs in Himachal Pradesh Government.[4]
