Jang Dong Woo (Hangul: 장동우; hanja: 張東雨; born November 22, 1990), commonly known by his stage name Dongwoo, is a South Korean singer, rapper, dancer, presenter and actor. He is the main rapper and lead dancer of South Korean boy band Infinite, which debuted under Woollim Entertainment in 2010.[1] Dongwoo and fellow Infinite member Hoya debuted as Infinite H sub-unit on January 11, 2013 with their mini album titled Fly High.[2]

Biography

Pre-debut he was trained under JYP Entertainment for years. He is a former schoolmate of EXO's eldest, Xiumin.[3] He first debuted in 2010 under Woollim entertainment as the group’s lead dancer and main rapper of Infinite. He is the second oldest in the group. He has a lot of interest in songwriting and composing. He and Hoya are certified as professional songwriters. On February 15, 2013 Dongwoo graduated from Daekyung University's Practical Music program. He along with members Sunggyu, Hoya, Sungyeol and L, received the 'Proud Daekyung University Student award'.[4]

Dongwoo made his debut as member of South Korean boyband Infinite in 2010. Dongwoo was first introduced as main rapper of boy band Infinite. The group officially debuted on June 10, 2010.[5]

Infinite H

Dongwoo along with fellow member Hoya debuted as Infinite H, the first official sub-unit of Infinite formed in 2012. They released their first mini album Fly High.[6] On January 26, 2015, the duo made their comeback with the release of their second EP, Fly Again.[7]

Other activities

Pre-debut, he performed as a back-up dancer during Epik High’s Run promotions on various music shows, alongside band member Hoya. In 2012, he featured in single She is a flirt of Baby Soul and 유지아. The same year he performed with Sunggyu and Baby Soul on Immortal Songs 2 for the song "Woman On The Beach".[8] In Aug 2013, he , along with Hoya, featured in Tasty’s MAMAMA song . The duo contributed to the lyrics of the song.[9] In 2014, he was featured on track 3 titled “7-2-Misunderstanding” of Nicole’s mini album "First romance".[10][11] In 2015, he along with B1A4's Baro featured in Ami's track Hurts down to bones [12]

Dongwoo made his debut as a musical actor, in the musical “In The Heights”. Dongwoo plays the role of main lead ‘Usnavi’ along with Yang Dong Geun, Jung Won Young and Key. The musical was produced by SM C&C, a subsidiary of S.M. Entertainment, and ran from September 4 to November 22 at 'Blue Square'.[13][14]

Voice Acting

Dongwoo and other members of Infinite dubbed children's cartoon Wara Store from December 27, 2011 to March 27, 2012 as themselves.[15]

On 26 July 2015, Dongwoo along with band member L hosted KBS Cool FM's Show KBS Kong as a guest.

In December 2012, Dongwoo along with band member Hoya acted as double MCs for M Countdown show.[16] In February 2015, Dongwoo along with Minho and Lizzy acted as a special MC for Music core. The same year, he alongside Yeri and Minho acted as a special MC for the Music Core.[17]
