Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai has released thirteen studio albums, seven compilation albums, four remix albums, four live albums, and one cover album. In 1999, Tsai signed a recording contract with Universal Music. The first release under the label was her debut album, 1019 (1999), which has sold 400,000 copies in Taiwan alone.[1] She followed the debut album with the sophomore release, Don't Stop (2000). The album has sold more than 450,000 copies, becoming her best-selling studio album of her career to this date.[2] Show Your Love was released as her third studio album in 2000 and has sold 260,000 copies in Taiwan alone.[3] In 2001, she released her fourth studio album, Lucky Number, which has sold more than 150,000 copies in Taiwan alone.[4]
In 2002, Tsai signed a contract with Sony Music. Magic, released in 2003, which was heralded as her comeback album, has sold 360,000 copies in Taiwan alone and 1.5 million copies in Asia, becoming the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[5][6] Her sixth studio album, Castle, was released in 2004. The album has sold 300,000 in Taiwan alone and 2 million in Asia, becoming the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[7][8] Tsai's seventh studio album, J-game, was released in 2005 and has sold 260,000 copies in Taiwan alone and 2 million in Asia, becoming the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[9]
In 2006, she signed a contract with Capitol Music.[10] Her first released under Capitol was the studio album, Dancing Diva, which was released in the same year. The album has sold more than 260,000 copies in Taiwan alone and 2.5 million copies in Asia, becoming the year's best-selling album in Taiwan.[11] She also released her remix album, Dancing Forever, in the same year. She released her ninth studio album, Agent J, in 2007. The album has sold more than 200,000 copies in Taiwan alone and 2.5 million copies in Asia, becoming her second the year's best-selling album in Taiwan.[12] Her remaining contract with Capitol ended with her first cover album, Love Exercise (2008), which has sold 30,000 copies in Taiwan alone, becoming the year's best-selling Western-language album in Taiwan.[13]
In 2008, she signed a contract with Warner Music.[14] Her tenth studio album, Butterfly (2009), has sold 130,000 copies in Taiwan alone and 1.5 million copies in Asia, becoming her third the year's best-selling album in Taiwan.[15][16] Myself, released in 2010, has sold 65,000 copies in Taiwan alone, becoming Tsai's lowest-selling studio album but still the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[17] Tsai's twelfth studio album, Muse, was released in 2012 and has sold 100,000 copies in Taiwan alone, becoming the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[18] In 2014, she released her thirteenth studio album, Play, which has sold 75,000 copies in Taiwan alone, becoming the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan.[19]
Tsai has sold more than 23 million copies in Asia and is recognized as one of the Asia's top-selling female recording artists of the 21st century.[20] Since 2003, each of her studio albums became the year's best-selling album by a female artist in Taiwan, and three of them became the year's best-selling albums in Taiwan.
