Design details

In the World of Greyhawk campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, Joramy is the goddess of Fire, Volcanoes, Wrath, Anger, and Quarrels. Her symbol is a volcano.

Publication history

Joramy was first detailed for the Dungeons & Dragons game in the World of Greyhawk Fantasy Game Setting (1983), by Gary Gygax.[1]

Joramy was one of the deities described in the From the Ashes set (1992), for the Greyhawk campaign.[2] Joramy is described as one of the good deities that celestials can serve in the supplement Warriors of Heaven (1999).[3]

Joramy's role in the 3rd edition Greyhawk setting was defined in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer (2000).[4] Joramy's priesthood is detailed for 3rd edition in Complete Divine (2004).[5]

Description

Joramy is depicted as a nondescript woman with fiery hair and one fist upraised.

Realm

The restless goddess Joramy maintains no fixed realm, but wanders the planes of Bytopia and Elysium.

Relationships

Joramy gets along with non-evil gods who aren't afraid to be aggressive, but cares little for such emotionally distant deities as Delleb and Rao. Her disdain for such beings extends even to Zodal, her estranged lover. Joramy is a slightly subservient ally of Pelor, who values her willingness to go to lengths he would not, in the fight against evil. She is also allied with Kurell, who shares her reactionary, emotional nature.

Joramy hates Erythnul and her church has a "kill on sight" policy concerning his clerics and worshipers. The exact cause of her enmity is unclear, except that it is centered on Erythnul's jealousy of the Fire Goddess. Joramy is also an enemy of Beltar. This is due to several instances of Beltar's followers in the Hellfurnaces making sacrifices of Joramy's followers. This is likely to lead to all out war between the two factions, presently.

Artifacts

Mordenkainen believes that Joramy played a role in the creation of Queen Ehlissa's Marvelous Nightingale.
