Karina Brez (born June 19, 1988) is a Ukrainian American beauty pageant titleholder.
Early life
Brez was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine on May 19, 1988. She immigrated to the United States in 1989, moving to Jackson Heights, New York, and later years to Palm Beach, Florida.[1] She is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America.
Career
Brez won the Miss Florida USA 2012 pageant and the Miss South Florida USA local title in February 2011.[2][3] Shortly before the Miss Florida pageant, some photographs of Brez posing in lingerie were published. Several contestants thought she should not have been allowed to compete for Misa USA.[4]
Brez went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant on June 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She got caught up in some controversy at the pageant. "Backstage during the pageant, I did see a piece of paper with names on it and like most people in such frenetic circumstances, joked that they must be names of the final contestants," Brez said in a statement."[5] Other contestants took her statement seriously to the point where Miss Pennsylvania USA, Sheena Monnin resigned her title and called the Miss USA pageant rigged.[6][7]
