Khartsyzk (Ukrainian: Харцизьк) or Khartsyzsk (Russian: Харцызск; IPA: [xɐrˈt͡sɨsk]) is an industrial city in Donetsk Oblast (province) of Ukraine. It is administratively incorporated as city of oblast significance. Population: 59,315(2013 est.)[1]; 64,175 (2001).

Starting Mid-April 2014 pro-Russian separatists took control of several towns in Donetsk Oblast.[2][3][4][5] Unknown armed men took control of Khartsyzk city hall on 13 April 2014 and declared it to be part of the Donetsk People's Republic.[6] Since then the city is controlled by this unrecognized state.[7] A pro-Ukrainian unity rally was held in the town on 22 April 2014.[8] One of the view pro-Ukraine unity rallies at that time in the region.[9]
