Kitani Mohobbat Hai (Hindi: कितनी मोहब्बत है) (English: How much I love you) is an Indian soap opera which aired on NDTV Imagine from 19 January 2009 until its end on 25 September 2009. Kitani Mohabbat Hai Season 2 started airing on 1 November 2010. Season 2 is not a continuation; it stars the same leads in a different story.

Plot

This story starts with a man in jail who does not want to get a bail. Ganga Rai (lawyer of Arjun) wants to share his story with the world.

Arjun Punj, son of entrepreneur D K Punj is an arrogant business tycoon lives with his father and their business partner Mohan Mittal's family. Arjun learns the meaning of love when he meets Aarohi Sharma, a simple small-town girl who dreams of becoming a singer. Aarohi lives with her father Hari Prasad Sharma, a righteous principal of Shimla's Gurukul, her two sisters Sur and Antara, her widowed sister-in-law Purvi, and her indifferent brother and his wife. Aarohi gets the job of being Arjun's associate to support her family, while Arjun tries everything to torture her and make her quit the job. Even though Arjun hates women because his mother left him and his father when he was a child, he can't help but fall in love with Aarohi. Aarohi too realises Arjun is a gem of a person behind that mask of an angry monster, and falls for him. After many fights and romance, everything looks perfect for the two. Almost perfect. They even decide to get married as Arjun promises Aarohi to talk to her father about their relationship.

It turns out that Arjun's mother is Aarohi's badi maa, a woman with whom she has no relations, but who Aarohi loves very much. When Arjun comes to know the truth, he thinks that Aarohi is with him just because of his mother's insistence and is actually marrying him to complete his mother's revenge and for his money.Heartbroken and totally shattered ,He goes to the extent of hurting Aarohi by proposing to another girl named Natasha Mittal, who is the daughter of Arjun's father's business partner and friend, Mohan Mittal, becoming the cold man he was before he met her. Mohan Mittal's son and Natasha's brother, Salil Mittal is in love with Purvi, who is Aarohi's widowed sister-in-law.Salil's father Mohan and Arjun's father deliberately on the wedding of purvi and Salil, reveals the fact that Purvi is widow and denies that Hariprasad had told all of it to them much earlier, which in fact is a lie as hariprasad had revealed about purvi being a widow at the start to DK and Mohan but they had hidden it to use it later to break the wedding after Hariprasad gives them his land.This insult worsens Arohi's father's health .Arohi is stunned to see Arjun also insulting her family and behaving badly with her and Arjun and Arohi end their relationship,both angry and misunderstanding each other.Salil marries Purvi as he understand his parents ploys and Purvi too gives in to his love and support. On the engagement night of Arjun-Natasha, Arjun dramatically insults Aarohi in front of everyone. However, his engagement with Natasha breaks. Arjun's mother reveals that Arjun's father was at fault for her departure, not her. This hurts Arjun, not because he blindly believed his father, but because he also hurt Aarohi. Arjun rushes to apologise to Aarohi while Aarohi rushes to hospital with her cancer-ridden father.While driving and arguing with his father, Arjun accidentally dashes the van Aarohi and her father are in. While Aarohi fights between life and death, Arjun begs to God and bets his whole life for one breath of Aarohi. When Aarohi recovers, Arjun decides to live for her only, and helps her in every step of her life, though she never gets to know it.

Aarohi leaves her hometown, Shimla, for Mumbai to achieve her dream of becoming a singer. Arjun leaves the luxuries of his life for the sole aim of nurturing Aarohi's dream. In Mumbai, Aarohi meets Karan, a famous singer and womanizer, who first steals Aarohi's music, later falls in love with her, and then helps her achieve her dream. Arjun and Aarohi share the same apartment due to situation, and despite of hating Arjun for ruining her life and trust on love, Aarohi can't help but feel for him. Arjun bears all her harsh words and rejections with a smile just to make sure she is happy. After Arjun saves her from a burning building, Aarohi realises that he still loves her. The two finally reunite and they decide to get married. Aarohi's father opposes this match as he misunderstands Arjun as a womanizer and wants Aarohi to marry Karan, but Aarohi stays strong in her stand about her love. After lot of tussles, finally Aarohi's father agrees to compromise for the sake of Aarohi's love. Arjun's father doesn't like this match and emotionally blackmails Aarohi into leaving Arjun secretly, saying that if she doesn't leave him, he will reveal that Arjun is not his son and Arjun will lose his so-called family. Thus, Aarohi leaves him and accepts Karan's wedding proposal.

On the wedding day, Arjun kidnaps Aarohi to prevent her from marrying Karan. She escapes by sending him to jail, but Arjun is freed by his father's friend. During the wedding, Aarohi's father falls off a slippery balcony while talking to Arjun, and dies. The blame is placed on Arjun and he is sent to jail for two years before he is executed. Aarohi fails to trust on Arjun because of the shock of losing her father and Aarohi's marriage is halted; during this time, she accomplishes her dream, gaining money, fame and property. She hates Arjun to the core but also cries everyday remembering him, their love and their days together while Arjun leads a recluse life in jail, almost worshipping Aarohi and their love, and refusing to talk to or meet anybody. On Arjun's execution day, Aarohi watches her sister's wedding video, which is a real account of her father's death. She realizes the mistake and runs to the prison in time to save Arjun's life. However, she decides not to meet him as she has failed him when he needed her the most and, instead, returns to Shimla to lead a quiet life with Arjun's memories and their beautiful past. Arjun tries to pursue Aarohi after knowing why she had decided to marry Karan in the first place, but misunderstands her guilt as her indifference and he thinks she has moved on from him.

As fate would have it, Arjun decides to return to Shimla. After a lot of mishaps and almost-meetings, Arjun and Aarohi travel to Shimla by train. At the station, Aarohi is about to miss the train. She remembers her mother's letter, which says destiny will find her. A hand then comes out of the train and she runs to it. The hand belongs to Arjun.The lovers finally reunite and this time for ever. Back in Shimla, Arjun and Aarohi finally have the big, traditional wedding with their loves ones, that they had always dreamed of.
