Naagin (English: Female Serpent) (also known as Naagin — Mohabbat Aur Inteqaam Ki Dastaan) is an Indian serial drama television series, which premiered on 1 November 2015 and aired every Saturday and Sunday on Colors TV. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner Balaji Telefilms. The show stars Mouni Roy, Arjun Bijlani and Adaa Khan in lead roles.[2] Sudha Chandran plays the main antagonist.[3] Naagin has been a ratings success and since its inception it is one of the highest rated show on Indian television and won numerous awards.[4][5]
Plot summary Season 1
This is a story about two Icchadari Naagins named Shivanya and Sesha. Shivanya's parents were taking care of Naagmani but were killed by five people: Viren, Suri, Sailesh, Ankush and Yamini. Shivanya was not able to see two murderers:Suri and Yamini. Ankush and Yamini had a son, Rithik. Rithik's childhood friend Tanvi wanted to marry him but he was not interested in this wedding.A Pandit of their family told Yamini that in Rithik's Kundli Markesh Dosh is written.She bought her family to panchner haveli.Shivanya enters the house as a maid.Rithik begans to love Shivanya.In search of network he reached the site where Shivanya'ss parents were murdered.Then she saws Sesha and follows her.Then he falls from the cliff.
Shiv ji saved Rithik from dying.His family comes there and take Rithik back home.There was a celebration in the haveli.In that Celebration Sesha came and mixes poison in a cup of water.She becomes a waiter and gives it to Ankush but mistakely she had given the poison to wrong person.
Viren asks Shivanya to come on jalebi hotel and spend some time with him.She comes there with a plan to kill Viren.Shivanya bites Viren.Then viren goes into coma.Sivanya got to know tat if Tanvi and Rithik will marry then the family will reside in america forever.She was able to stop the marraige between those two but has to marry him herself.Gurudev told Shivanya that one of the killers not seen by her has six fingers.So,she asked Amrita that is anybody in their family has six fingers.But Shivanya didn't get an answer.
Yamini,Amrita,Ankush and Shivanya went to Gurumaa but Shivanya was not able to enter her cave.Gurumaa gave five protective rings to them to save themselves from naagin.Then Suri cames in the house who was residing in Canada.Shivanya saw his six fingers and tells this to Sesha.Sesha told her to kill him but Shivanya first wanted a proof.Then Sesha shows the proof to Shivanya.
Shivanya was about to kill him but the ring saved him.Then Sesha send a message from Manisha's phone to Sailesh to come in the shiv mandir.Ramya saw the message and told Suri to go there too.Sesha told this to Shivanya.Seeing Sailesh with Manisha,Suri bagan to fight with him.Due to this Suri's ring got removed.Then Shivanya and Sesha kill him.
Yamini and Ankush got to know that Suri died from Gurumaa.Gurumaa said to do Ma Kali Yagya to save themselves.Ma kali cames and began to kill all the naag-naagins but Shivanya managed to stop this.
Sesha was angry with gurumaa and decided to kill her.Meanwhile Shivanya got to know about a secret in the devdi of panchner haveli.She goes with Rithik to find the secret.Sesha bites Gurumaa but the poison didn't do a thing.Gurumaa traps Sesha.Shivanya goes to rescue her.Then Gurumaa gaves Ankush a poisonous dagger to kill naagin.
Ankush told Sailesh that he is going to arrranga a marraige of Tanvi and Kabir.But instead of Kabirb an Icchadari Nevla comes in their home.When Tanvi told Kabir about Shivanya and Sesha being a naagin then Kabir kills Tanvi.But Shivanya and Sesha managed to kill the Nevla.
Ankush goes to Gurumaa and they made a plan to kill naagin.They arranged a pooja in panchner haveli.There Ankush removes his ring and Shivanya comes to bite him.But he wears the ring and follows naagin.Then he calls Rithik to give him a clue about naagin.Then he bought the dagger and stabs naagin.Shivanya removes the dagger and called Sesha.Then Sesha take her to Gurudev.
Gurudev called Yogiraj.He said that now only Rithik can save her and that she had to go to a mandir.On the way a python swallows Shivanya but Sesha managed to save her.Then Seshnaag gave Shivanya her life but take her powers.Angad wrote a love letter to Rithik from Shivanya and Rithik thought that Shivanya has written this.So,he started to show his love for her.When Shivanya returned home She said to stop this.This made Rithik angry.Ramya saws Sesha in Shivanya's face transforming into a snake and told this to the family.
Shivanya was tested by Gurumaa and she passed all the tests.Then Sailesh told some kidnappers to kidnap Shivanya.Then Shivanya gets her powers back.Sailesh comes there and Rithik too came.Sailesh saw Shivanya in half human half naagin form and ran away.But Shivanya was able to kill him.Rithik came there but was not able to see her face.
He reported this to the family.He was heading towards Gurumaa with naagin's Maang Tika.Shivanya goes with him.Sesha gripped him in her tail.She was about to kill Rithik but Shivanya saved him.Then Sesha grips Shivanya in her tail and was about to bite her.Then Rithik gave the Maang Tika to save Shivanya.
The day had come when Naagmani will show up.But for that a naagin must do a tandav.First the plan was that Sesha would do the tandav but when Shivanya got to know that Gurumaa is going to kill Sesha during the tandav,Shivanya decides to do the tandav to save Sesha.

Production
Development
Naagin was developed by the Balaji Production's producer Ekta Kapoor who also holds the chair. Kapoor hired Santram Varma, Chandni and Niraj for the direction of series while Tanushree Gupta was deleted to be the creative director. The story for the serial is written by R M Joshi, Neha Singh, Shivani Shah and Ankush Nagpal who also wrote the story lines. The dialogues were written by Rekha Modi and the story was written bye
In mid 2015, Balaji Telefilms began the casting and development, the series was finalised to be one of the different shows in Indian media and was also selected to function the storyline in limited sequence of episodes. The project was finalised in August and It was decided that the series will be aired twice a week with 40 minute episode minus commercial, It was also thought that the show will be compete against Ekta's Kumkum Bhagya, but in November, it was announced that the series will be given 20:00 slot which reserved both the series for TRP management.
Ratings
In December 11, 2015 BARC ratings showed that the TV series Naagin rejuvenated the channel's weekend slot while Star Plus) series Saath Nibhana Saathiya was at No.2 with 17.2 TVM, while 'Kumkum Bhagya' on ZEE TV was in third with 13.8 TVM.[6] While in December 17, 2015 similar listing took place where most watched show on Indian television remained Naagin on Colors with 17819TVM (last week 19576TVM), followed by Saath Nibhana Saathiya on Star Plus with 15344 (last week 17293), 'Kumkum Bhagya' on ZEE TV was at third position with 13811TVM [7]
With entire month of January, Naagin constantly increased in viewership being the top No#1 show in India while Kumkum Bhagya was the second most watche series in India. According to January 14, 2016 ratings Kumkum Bhagya had returned to the 2nd Rank, the top 2 shows were Naagin and Kumkum Bhagya, Naagin pulled 19824 viewers (last week 19847), followed by Kumkum Bhagya’ with 13692 viewers.[8] Again in January 21, 2016 The top 2 Indian TV Shows were Naagin and Kumkum Bhagya. Naagin with 18125 viewers (previous week 19824), fand ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ with 14852 viewers (previous week 13692).[9] Next week It was again announced that Kumkum Bhagya, the No#2 Positioned show gained 14244 viewers while Naagin was on Top with 17199 viewers.[10] With the entire month Kumkum Bhagya was viewers second choice.
With February 2016, a change in ratings took place on the first week, ratings showed that Star Plus's long running shows Saath Nibhana Saathiya had entered the No#3 position with 12095 viewers. The Top 2 Positions were again taken by ‘Naagin’ (with 19133 viewers),and Kumkum Bhagya (with 15554 viewers).[11] With February's second week, Kumkum bhagya became the third most choice with 14261 Impressions while Naagin gained the highest of all as its best ever ratings with 20680 viewers.[12] Recently Naagin has touched a record breaking TRP of 6.3.
