Landmark University (LMU) is located in Omu-Aran, Kwara State in Nigeria. It is a Private Christian University. It was founded by Dr. David Oyedepo.[1][2]

According to the Chancellor Landmark University is a product of divine revelation. A proof which is believed to be evident in the peaceful ambiance around the campus characterised by a cool windy and friendly weather which supports the agrarian mission of the university; historical best time for ultra-modern infrastructure growth that rhymes and foster academic progressions in all disciplines, especially agriculture; and the inherent attractions of international best-rated scholars/academia who wield same visions and work in oneness toward its fruition.[3]

The name “Landmark” was inspired from the compelling establishment purpose, which is to advance learning through research by breaking new grounds of knowledge and innovation. Names are significant because individuals and corporate entities answer to their names. They remind not only the bearers but also the corporate operators, leaders and stakeholders of the institutions establishment purpose. From this understanding of purpose, they are able to detect if the University is truly breaking new grounds of knowledge through research or not.

Governance[edit source | edit]

World Mission Agency (WMA), a Christian mission organization, (an arm of Living Faith Church World Wide founded by Dr. David Oyedepo) is the proprietor of Landmark University. In his capacity as the visioner of the University, Dr. Oyedepo serves as the life Chancellor of the University and the Chairman of the Board of Trustee of World Mission Agency. It is the Board of Trustee of World Mission Agency that appoints members and also elects the Chairman of the Board of Regents (Governing Council) of Landmark University. The Board is the apex governing body of the University.

Chancellor[edit source | edit]

The Chancellor of the University, Bishop Dr. David Oyedepo is the Chief Executive Officer of the University. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Regents.

Pro-Chancellor[edit source | edit]

This office no longer exists in Landmark University.

The Previous

The Pro chancellor of the University, Pastor Yemi Nathaniel. His appointment took effect from August 2014. This was announced by the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Dr. David Oyedepo at a Chancellor’s special meeting with the University’s enlarged Management team.. The Chancellor said the appointment will facilitate decision making and approval process in the University as well as spiritual oversight of the University community. According to the job description read by the Chancellor,

The Office of the Pro Chancellor helps to maintain productive and strategic working relationship between the University Management and the Board of Regents. The duties performed on behalf of the Chancellor include the following:

  1. Spiritual oversight of the University performed in the light of the institution's foundation of faith and in the light of the fear of God considered fundamental to successful living.
  2. Oversight and entrenchment of the University vision and mission in the faculty, staff and students from the underlining perspectives of the University core values.
  3. Providing on the ground platform for full and functional discharge of the governance responsibilities of the Board of Regents.
  4. Entrenching a culture of efficient management of proprietor's resources and investments through prompt discharge of the finance and general purpose duties of the Board.

Vice-Chancellor[edit source | edit]

The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Aize Obayan, who replaced Professor Joseph Afolayan in July 2015. The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Academic Officer of the University. In this capacity, he/she is the Chief Responsibility Officer for University’s operations. Academic administration is planted firmly in the highest academic authority of the university which is the Senate. The Vice Chancellor is the Chairman of University Senate and exercises all powers granted him/her in the law that established the University in respect of guiding and directing the university’s academic activities. He/She holds in trust the Chancellor’s executive responsibilities and authority in all areas where the Chancellor so delegates. He/She also serves as a member of the Board of Regents. Aize Obayan is Professor of Counseling, specializing in Multicultural issues in Counseling. She is the immediate past Vice - Chancellor of Covenant University, Nigeria, where she served for eight academic sessions as the second substantive Vice- Chancellor. She is a seasoned academic, speaker and award-winning university administrator. In 2006, the National Universities Commission awarded her Best Vice-Chancellor (Private Universities Category). Aize Obayan, has served as a member of the Board of National Universities Commission, Nigeria, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s FSS 2020 Human Capital Development Committee and the Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Deputy Vice Chancellor[edit source | edit]

The current Deputy Vice Chancellor is Prof. Enoch Oyawoye.[6]The Deputy Vice Chancellor is responsible to the Vice Chancellor. The office provide Academic and Administrative Leadership support for the Vice Chancellor by ensuring excellent and harmonious discharge of responsibilities assigned to him.

The University is situated on its main and only campus in Omu-Aran Kwara state, where all its academic activities take place.

Sport

Towards achieving the Total Man Concept programme of Landmark University which is geared towards developing Man in his triune nature, the Sport Sub-Unit of the Directorate; working in collaboration with the Sports arm of the Student Representative Council places their emphasis on the development of Man’s physical being.

To achieve this, sporting activities, competitions, and physical fitness exercises are regularly organized for the students at the University’s Sports complex as well as other Sporting arenas around the Halls of Residence.

Some of such activities include Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis and Basket Ball. The Common Rooms located within the Halls of Residence are also equipped with Table Tennis boards for indoor games.

Most prominent of the competitions is the Chancellor’s Cup Football Competition that holds annually during the Omega Semester.

A physical fitness programme tagged “Who says you can’t lose weight”, also holds for interested female students.

With these activities in place, Directorate has been able fulfill her objective of keeping the students physically fit.

Library

The Library occupies a central point in any citadel of learning worth its salt. It is the hub around which teaching, learning and research revolves. It serves as the engine room for knowledge generation and dissemination which makes it a theatre for intellectual renaissance where the past, present and future interact. The worth of any library is based on the robustness of its collection aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching, learning and research.

The Library in Landmark University is known as Centre for Learning Resources (CLR). It is a world-class two storey magnificent glass edifice equipped with state-of-the-art facilities with a seating capacity of 2,000. It acquires, organizes, stores and disseminates information in various formats. These include print and electronic formats. Landmark University Centre for Learning Resources is fully automated, with an OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) accessible to staff and students remotely from their offices, departments, hostels and homes. It also has diverse electronic resources accessible to our users irrespective of their locations. Resources available in the Centre include:

Online Databases

The library can boast of quite a number of online databases. These include EBSCO, JSTOR, ARDI, Bioline, AGORA, DOAJ, HINARI, OARE, Ebrary, NUC Virtual Library and Science Direct. Ebrary alone provides access to over 400,000 e-books and other documents while others contain over 40, 000 electronic journals across all disciplines.

Escapist Reading

This section is located on the ground floor of the library. It is tastefully furnished and equipped with a large screen Samsung Led television, DSTV, and Air-conditioner. This section provides access to educational documentaries, CNN, TBN and other information bearing networks. It provides a platform for relaxation and learning.
