List of Crystal Palace F.C. seasons
This is a list of Crystal Palace F.C. seasons in English and European football, from 1905—when the club were formed—to the 2014–15 season. It details the club's achievements in senior league and cup competitions, European competitions and the top scorers for each season. The list of top scorers also chronicles how the club's scoring records have progressed throughout the club's history.
Crystal Palace were formed in 1905 and played in the Southern League until the Southern League teams were incorporated into the newly formed Third Division in 1920.[1] The club were champions of the Division in its first season and were promoted to the Second Division. Crystal Palace's honours also include the Second Division title in 1978–79 and again in 1993–94, the Full Members Cup in 1990–91, as well as the London Challenge Cup in 1912-1913, 1913-1914 and 1920-1921.
Crystal Palace have been in the Premier League on five separate occasions, and have also been relegated from the Premier League a record four times.[2] In 1992–93, they were founder members of the league but were relegated from the 22 team division at the end of the season with 49 points, which is still a Premier League record number of points for a relegated club.[3] The club have won promotion in a total of eleven seasons and been relegated on nine occasions. Crystal Palace have also played in European competition when they took England's only place in the Intertoto Cup in 1998. They lost to Samsunspor in the third round.[4] At the end of the 2012-13 season the club returned to the Premiership after defeating Watford 1-0 in the play-offs courtesy of a Kevin Phillips penalty.[5]
