  7. 1 2 3 As one of the teams at the bottom of the table, Swindon played in the relegation play-offs and performed well enough to retain their place in the league.

Swindon resigned from the league after the second consecutive bottom of the table finish in 1901-02 and entered the Reserve side instead. Swindon Reserves continued to play in the Western League until 1949

  23. Division Two was re-titled League One following the creation of the Championship for the 2004-05 season
