- Yasuko Namba summited in 1996 at the age of 47, but died in the 1996 Mount Everest disaster[40]
- Mary Lefever summited May 1993 at the age of 47 years 21 days[23]
- Hannelore Schmatz summited 2 Oct 1979 at the age of 39 years, 228 days making her the oldest woman up to that time;she died descending from the summit.[23]

- Elizabeth Hawley, has kept records for Everest from 1960s to at least 2015.[82]
- Marc Kopp was the first disabled person to skydive over Mount Everest, in 2013;he suffers from multiple sclerosis.[83]
Nepali records
Many Mount Everest records are held by Nepali, especially those from the Sherpa region who are synonymous with hospitality, hard-work, and brave alpenism.
- On 11 May 2011, Apa Sherpa successfully reached the summit of Everest for the twenty-first time, breaking his own record for the most successful ascents.[84] He first climbed Mount Everest in 1989 at the age of 29.[85]
- One of the most famous Nepalese female mountaineers was Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepali female climber to reach the summit of Everest, but who died during the descent. Another well-known woman Sherpa was the two-time Everest summiter Pemba Doma Sherpa, who died after falling from Lhotse on 22 May 2007.[86]

Another very deadly event was in 1995, when 42 perished near Everest in a large avalanche.[92][93]
Statistics
A 2013 article in National Geographic noted 19,121 people above a base camp and 6,206 Everest summits up to the year 2012.[94] An example of statistics is that first German woman to summit mount Everest and survive, was Helga Hengge in 1999.[95] However, the first German (from West Germany) to make it to the summit was Hannelore Schmatz but she died on descent, getting down to about 8300 meters altitude.[95]
