List of theaters and cinemas in Hyderabad
Cinema has been the major mode of entertainment of the people of Hyderabad from the past 90 years. Tollywood, Bollywood and Hollywood movies are mainly played in the theaters of Hyderabad. Previously, there were only theaters which used to play the movies. But in the early 2000's, the multiplex culture has been introduced to the people of Hyderabad. From then, a number of multiplexes has been constructed and the legacy of the theaters is slowly degrading. Many theaters have been demolished and multiplexes have been constructed in their place. Sudarshan 70MM, Maheshwari Parameshwari Complex and Odeon Complex theaters are some of such kind. But even now, some of the famous theaters have the same importance.[1]
Prasads Multiplex is the first multiplex built in Hyderabad. It was opened on 25 July 2002. As of now, there are a total of 23 multiplexes with a combined total of 96 screens. Prasads Multiplex[2] has an IMAX screen, which is the first of its kind in India and is the second largest IMAX screen(662 square meters) in the world. It has a powerful projector with 24 optical focus with 4D simulator. Among the 23 multiplexes, PVR Sujana Mall has the highest number of 9 screens.

Hyderabad has a total of 23 multiplexes with a total screen count of 96. Apart from these, a number of multiplexes are being constructed in Kukatpally and Madhapur areas.

Theaters in Hyderabad
"RTC X Roads" - a commercial center of Hyderabad, has a prominent place in the hearts of every movie lover in Hyderabad. Most of the main theaters of Hyderabad are from this place. Once there were 17 theaters here. But due to the multiplex culture and shopping malls, some of the theaters have been closed or demolished. Sudarshan Complex, Sandhya Complex, Odeon Complex, Mayuri theaters and Shanthi theater are some of the theaters.
From 2002, when the first multiplex of Hyderabad-Prasads Multiplex was opened, a number of theaters were renovated into multiplexes, few were converted into function halls and some were demolished to build shopping complexes and residential complexes. The famous Sudarshan 70 mm Theater was demolished and a residential complex was built in its place. The Odeon Cinema Complex at RTC X Roads, which has 3 theaters was demolished and currently a Shopping mall with 7 screen Multiplex is being constructed. Maheshwari-Parameshwari Complex, the first theater complex in India to have an escalator, has been demolished and a shopping mall with a 5-screen INOX multiplex has been built.
Even though the multiplex culture has been blooming throughout India, the people of Hyderabad have not left their hobby of watching movies in the theaters. When compared to other Metropolitan cities in India, The prominence of the theaters in Hyderabad has not come down. With a total of 107 theaters, Hyderabad stands on top with the highest number of theaters among all the cities in India.
