Loving is an upcoming British-American drama film directed and written by Jeff Nichols. The film stars Joel Edgerton, Ruth Negga, Michael Shannon, and Nick Kroll. Principal photography began on September 16, 2015 in Richmond, Virginia.[1] The film is scheduled to be released on November 4, 2016. It has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.[2][3]
Plot
Because of the interracial marriage of Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple is sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958.[4]

Production
On May 8, 2015, it was announced that Jeff Nichols would write and direct Loving about the couple behind the 1967 civil rights case Loving v. Virginia, Mildred and Richard Loving.[4] Raindog Films and The Zoo developed the film, and Big Beach would be financing the film, while producers would be Nancy Buirski, Sarah Green, Colin Firth, Ged Doherty, Marc Turtletaub, and Peter Saraf.[4] The film was inspired by Buirski's documentary The Loving Story.[5]
Principal photography on the film began on September 16, 2015 in Richmond, Virginia.[6][7]
