Monroe City is a small unincorporated community in the historic Bluff Precinct of Monroe County, Illinois, United States.[1]
History
It had formerly been called James’ Mill, Nosers' Mill, and Monrovia. There was also a settlement a short distance away called Woodville; some sources equate the two. However, a map of 1875 clearly shows the two as distinct. In the year 1851, a store was started there and around the same time the place came to be called Monroe City.[2]
