Mounds Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in the city of Anderson, Indiana, United States. Opened in 1965, it was the first fully enclosed shopping mall developed by Simon Property Group. Mounds Mall features two Carson's stores, a small food court, and a multiplex movie theater. It also includes more than thirty other tenants.
History
Mounds Mall was developed by Melvin Simon & Associates (now Simon Property Group), opening in January 1965 as that company's first fully enclosed mall property, and the second mall in Indiana (Evansville's fully enclosed Washington Square began business in October 1963).[1] One of its original anchor stores was Montgomery Ward, which became Sears in 1983.[2] Other early tenants included a Kroger supermarket, a Woolworth dime store (which later became part of Sears) and H. P. Wasson and Company, which became Meis, then Elder-Beerman, and finally Carson's in 2011.[3] In 2012, the Sears closed as a result of low sales of the 2011 holiday season.
