"Mystery of the Urinal Deuce" is the ninth episode of the tenth season of the American animated television series South Park, and the 148th episode of the series overall. It first aired on Comedy Central in the United States on October 11, 2006. The episode focuses on the 9/11 conspiracy theories, which are brought up by Cartman.
The episode was written by series co-creator Trey Parker and is rated TV-MA L in the United States.
Plot
When someone at South Park Elementary defecates in a urinal, Mr. Mackey searches for the boy responsible. Cartman begins to rant that it was a conspiracy, "just like 9/11". The others, however, simply brush him off. Meanwhile, Mr. Mackey continues to protest the fact that someone defecated in the urinal. When the police decide they can be of no further help, they hire the Hardly Boys, who investigate the urinal incident by discovering raging clues.
Cartman performs an investigation, which he presents to his class in a presentation where he claims that the true culprit behind the 9/11 attacks was Kyle. Despite the obvious invalidity of Cartman's claims, he nonetheless manages to convince everyone that Kyle is guilty. Kyle tries to rebut this, but nobody listens to him. When Kyle tells his mother that everyone thinks he is the 9/11 culprit, she calls a town meeting, arguing that children do not understand enough about the September 11th attacks.
Kyle enlists Stan's help, and they leave South Park to find an organization that can prove Kyle's innocence. The group they find, however, believes that the United States government orchestrated the 9/11 attacks. The conspiracy organization has glass jars of anthrax, which they use as "evidence" of the attack. As Kyle is holding them, a SWAT team attacks and takes Kyle, Stan, and the leader of the conspiracy organization for questioning. They are then taken to the White House where the presidential officials, along with President George W. Bush, reveals that the government really is behind 9/11. Bush himself demonstrates the incredibly convoluted method of how they pulled the attacks off and after doing so, he murders the conspiracy leader and decides to kill Stan and Kyle as well, to conceal the conspiracy. Dick Cheney attempts to kill the boys with a crossbow, but misses, and the pair makes their escape. Meanwhile, Clyde is accused of the urinal incident, and while he laughs at Mr. Mackey's humorous words, his parents tell him that Clyde had a colostomy at the age of 5.
Meanwhile, Stan and Kyle walk around a street thinking they got out of the White House really easy. Then, the conspiracy leader walks off from a McDonald's, which reveals that he was not actually killed. He takes off running and the boys chase him to a dead end. Out of nowhere a man shoots the leader and tells the boys to follow him to his house, in which he reveals himself as a detective whose sons are the Hardly Boys. His sons got clues from the urinal at South Park which let them determine that the 9/11 conspiracy was a government conspiracy. President Bush and the rest of the politicians then suddenly appear. Bush once again says the government caused 9/11, and reveals an envelope supposedly containing the damning documents, before suspiciously dropping them on the ground. Kyle knows that the government did not plan 9/11 but the Hardly father asks him how did he even know their position and Stan points a gun to Kyle revealing that he knew that 9/11 was caused by "a bunch of pissed-off Muslims" and that 1/4 of the U.S. population was retarded at thinking the government caused 9/11. He also reveals that he was the kid who defecated in the urinal because at the moment the stalls where full and he didn't want to lose recess and that he blamed the government for it and that the government was happy to take the blame as long as it showed that they were the cause of the attacks because it will show people how powerful they are.
Soon after, Stan receives his punishment for defecating in the urinal: cleaning the urinal, while Mr. Mackey lectures him, much to Stan's amusement.
Reception
IGN gave the episode a rating of 7.7/10, calling the episode "topical and humorous", but felt the subplots involving the eponymous urinal deuce and the Hardly Boys were "awkward and really unfunny".[1]
