Nadar Mahajana Sangam S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, often called as SVN College (Also known as VN College, NMSSVN College and NMSSVNC) is a Prominent Autonomous (With effect from 2007) educational institution located at Nagamalai, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The College was started in the year 1965 by Nadar Mahajana Sangam with a main objective of providing quality Higher Education to the poor and downtrodden sons and daughters of Madurai district. It offers Bachelors and Masters level Degree, the college is affiliated under Madurai Kamaraj University.
The college is a Co-educational, Autonomous and ISO 9001:2008 certified institution and is re-accredited with "A" grade by National Assessment and Accreditation council (NAAC), Bangalore on 10 March 2012.[1]
History
The college was started in the year 1965 by the "Nadar Mahajana Sangam" with the encouragement of the generous donations received from philanthropic members of the Sangam. A sum of ₹ one lakh was donated by Thiru.S.Vellaichamy Nadar, a Philanthropist from Virudhunagar to start this educational institution as a Pre University College with initial student strength of 330 (Boys only), 18 teachers and 12 non-teaching staff. In order to perpetuate his pleasant memory, the college was named after him.<brIn the year 1986, it became a Co-educational institution.
The college was inaugurated on 20 July 1965 by the beloved leader Bharat Rathna Thiru. K. Kamaraj. Today this co-education citadel of learning has developed into a postgraduate and research institution aiming at imparting quality education with main emphasis on conduct and character development.
In the year 1990, the college celebrated its Silver Jubilee function in the August presence of His Excellency Thiru. Surjith Singh Barnala, the then Governor of Tamil Nadu. A number of eminent persons visited the college including former Union Minister Mr. Mohan Kumaramangalam, Mr.George Fernandes, former Chief Minister Mr. M.Karunanidhi.[2]

Placements
Personality development programs are regularly conducted for the final year students to make them employable. Placement Cell has also arranging Industrial visit, Guest lectures for the students to get and idea about the placement.[6]
Student Organizations
Associations
Lectures, debates,discussions, quiz, essay, elocution and several competitions are held under the auspices of the Department Associations so as to nurture the students in their respective fields of study. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions arranged in Neighbour colleges and by other local organizations. Inter-collegiate seminars are periodically organized by each department.[7]
Magazine
A College Magazine named Vaanam (வானம்) is published in order to develop writing skills among students.
Alumni Association
Every graduate of the College is encouraged to become a member of the Alumni Association. Alumni members has established endowments to encourage the current students. The members of the Association are actively involved in the developmental activities of the college. The members meet regularly in the course of each academic year. The members take part in the growth and progress of the College. The vision of the Alumni association is to motivate the current students in the career requirements and to support underprivileged students financially. And to build good rapport between the alumni and the students by way of conducting interactive meeting at regular intervals. The mission is to create data base of alumni and maintain it with continuous updating and to establish the communication with alumni to keep them informed of events in the college and for the alumni to share their views and experiences. And to act as a forum for exchange of information among its members and to act as fine link.[8]
