National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC), is a Ugandan construction and real estate management company, partly owned by the Uganda Government. The Company’s mandate is to increase the housing stock in the country, rehabilitate the housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes in an organized environment.[2]
History
NHCC was established by the National Housing Corporation Act of 1964, as a 100% government parastatal. The Act was later repealed by the 1974 Decree to form National Housing and Construction Corporation. In July 2002, the Corporation became a Public Limited Liability Company known as National Housing and Construction Company Limited. Later, the Uganda government partially divested from NHCC by selling 49% shareholding to Libyan African Investment Company (LAICO), an investment company owned by the Government of Libya.[3]

Asset base
In 2011, NHCC owned assets in excess of US$70 million, with annual turnover of US$6 million. NHCC owned 5.0% of Housing Finance Bank, Uganda's 9th largest commercial bank, as of December 2013.

As of December 2009, the following are some of the construction and management projects that NHCC was involved in: Sunset Apartments - 268 Apartment Homes (3 bedrooms each) - Kiwaatule, Kampala
- Bukoto Housing Project - 105 Housing Units - Bukoto, Kampala
- Ntinda Housing Project - 80 Housing Units - Ntinda, Kampala
- Naalya Housing Project - 610 Housing Units - Naalya, Kira Town, Wakiso District
- Lubowa Housing Project - 33 Executive Mansions - Lubowa, Wakiso District
- Mpumudde Housing Project - 20 Bungalows - Jinja
- Condominiums Sales have been completed to over 200 tenant-occupants in developments in the following sections of Kampala: Kololo, Nakasero and Bugoloobi
- Condominium Sales are planned to over 1,300 tenant-occupants in the following sections of Kampala: Bukoto, Bugoloobi and Wandegeya.
- NHCC has engaged third parties to construct the following developments which NHCC does not own:

- Office Block at Mbarara University, Mbarara.
Recent developments
In July 2014, NHCC borrowed US$9 million from Shelter Afrique, a Nairobi-based pan-African finance institution, for the purpose of constructing more affordable housing in Uganda.[4][5][6]
