New Cairo Map
New Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة الجديدة el-Qāhera el-Gedīda) is a city covering an area of about 30,000 hectares (70,000 acres) on the southeastern edge of Cairo governorate. It was established by presidential decree number 191 in the year 2000.[1][2] The settlement could ultimately have a population of 5 million.[3]
Located in what was formerly desert, New Cairo ranges in elevation between 250 and 350 metres (820 and 1,150 ft) above sea level.[4] Its largest neighborhoods are El-Tagamu El Awal and El-Tagamu El Khames.
