Pangyo Techno Valley
Pangyo Techno Valley (PTV) is an industrial complex in the city of Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The complex focuses on information technology, biotech, cultural technology and fusion technology.
The benefits of the diversity of fields are its location within a major metropolitan area, where PTV can receive various types of support from Gyeonggi Province.[1][2]
Construction
Pangyo Techno Valley covers about 454,964 m² in total. The R&D site covers about 48,417 m².
The general research site covers about 267,450 m². This site has direct researching facilities, research developing facilities, and school-work linked researching facilities. The research supporting site covers about 117,651 m². This site has guest houses, dormitories, a specialized graduate school, and a job training center.
The parking lot covers 21,716 m².
Companies
- Kakao, a mobile app and Internet website developer [3]
- Nexon, a video game developer and publisher[4]
- SK-Chemical [5] was constructed by SK Group in 1976. SKC is now a chemical-research company in Korea. SKC requires 'green chemicals' and 'life sciences' for the health of humanity.[6]
- ABN (Arem Broadcasting Network)[7]
- AhnLab Inc,[8] founded in 1995, is a security software provider in South Korea. AhnLab means 'Ahn-laboratory' and was constructed by Ahn Cheol-soo. Today AhnLab sells computer software such as antivirus software, online security software for online games and the Mobile Web.[9]
- CHA group consortium[10] 'CHA group' is a hospital and R&D group for human health sciences. 'CHA' was named after its owner's first name.[11]
- YURA corporation.[12]
- SK Planet, a mobile solutions subsidiary of SK Telecom[13]
- Gabia Inc,[14] Internet domain registrar and hosting provider in South Korea.
Economy
Because of Pangyo Techno Valley, development will affect Pangyo and Bundang significantly.[15] Due to the Shinbundang Line, the Pangyo Station's business district will grow in size.[16]
Transportation
Subway: Pangyo Station [17] is the closest subway station to the Pangyo Techno Valley. Visitors and workers exit through Number 1 and travel for two blocks to reach the Pangyo Techno Valley.[18]
Bus: Pangyo Techno Valley has two different bus stops in front of the valley. The closest bus stop is number '320'. The second bus stop, which is numbered '380' and '4000', is across the road in the valley.

Pangyo Techno Valley Festival Incident
On October 17, 2014 at the 1st Pangyo Techno Valley Festival, tragedy struck during a concert. Despite repeated safety warnings, a group of participants climbed on top of a ventilation grate to obtain a better viewing of the stage. The grate, covering an underground parking lot 10 metres (33 feet) down, gave way under the sheer weight of roughly 20-30 additional bodies. According to BBC News, 16 people were killed with an additional 11 injured.[19][20]
A Mr. Oh identified as an employee of Gyeonggi Institute of Science and Technology worked for one of the festival sponsors and handled safety measures, was found dead the morning of October 18, 2014 at the base of a 10-storey building near the venue. He is believed to have jumped to his death in response to the Pangyo Techno Valley Festival incident as a suicide note found at the scene apologized for the death of the victims.[21]
