For over three decades, Stage One has competed in the Massachusetts Drama Festival sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild. In 1970 Father Frank Toste CSC, a PVMHS faculty member founded a drama club and department at Peabody High. He dubbed the drama club, Stage One. The company quickly had great reviews with Father Toste leading the charge as the company director. Along with many great sets of casts and technical crews Stage One grew to great accomplishments leading up to Father Toste's departure from the company in 1990. Upon his retirement, he was replaced. In January 1994 Mr. Richard Carey was hired to be the new director, while Mrs. June Kessel came on board as Stage One advisor. Since those years Carey and Kessel and all the past and present members of Stage One along with SOAP have brought Stage One back. Both Carey and Kessel continue their roles through the present. The company is highly praised and puts on three shows a year.
