Pilkhuwa is a city and a municipal board in Hapur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.It is famous for its textile product specially bedsheet. According to the myths city got its name in British age, there was an elephant named PIL, and it was lost, when the queen soldiers were running here and there in search of the PIL (Elephant), village people used to ask what happened, they used to replied in short PIL Khuwa ( PIL Kho Gaya < PIL is lost>)the place where the queen elephant was lost named Pilkhuwa. It is mainly included in Hapur city.
Demographics
According to the 2011 census Pilkhuwa had a population of 8,00,736.[1] Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Pilkhuwa has an average literacy rate of 62%, lower than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 52%. In Pilkhuwa, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
History
In British India Pilkhuwa was purchased by Mr. Michael along with Meerut. Before 1976 pilkhuwa was under Meerut district on the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.Then chief minister Mr. N.D. Tiwari declared Ghaziabad as a district on 14 November 1976 . Later on Ghaziabad was divided in two districts as Ghaziabad and Panchsheel Nagar by Bahujan Samaj Party chief minister Mayawati on 28 September 2011 and now pilkhuwa was part of Panchsheel Nagar.But Panchsheel Nagar was the newly given name to the city Hapur by Mayawati people were unhappy because of changing original name of the city. Due to political clash between Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party later on chief minister Akhilesh Yadav changed the district name to Hapur on 23 July 2012 retained the original name and finally pilkhuwa is part of district Hapur.
Development and expansion
Expansion and industrialization in Pilkhuwa started in 1977 with the introduction of petrol pump set up by Lala. Shiv Kumar Garg, He is one of the pioneers responsible for the development of city. The fuel station opened by him licensed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited goes by the name of Shiv Service Station. When abundant petrol and diesel not available, the city progressed slowly. Late Janaab Mohammad Ibrahim Saahab who had his Diploma in Printing from Kanpur introduced new printing technologies including block printing and screen printing. He played a significant role in providing employment and facilitating development of the city.
Overview
- Pilkhuwa is famous for Gandhi's dream 'Khadi'. Pilkhuwa is well known for small industries for manufacturing the Canvas(which was firstly introduced by Shri Ramananad Garg & Shri Keshav Ram Gupta),Handloom Jacquard(introduced in 1969 by Late Shri Narendra Pratap Gupta),Khadi and printing work. Bedsheets, and towels are very famous.
- Pilkhuwa is also famous for its politics whereby, Lt. Shri Pandit Nand Kishore Sharma Ji's Government was first stable Government, some times in 1965-75. He was the Chairman of Municipal Council (erstwhile "Municipal Board") and he governed for 12 years. in that time, progress of Pilkhuwa was in full fledged. He was well known helper of Backward peoples and was helping him very much.
- Some large manufacturers export quality products to other parts of India, as well as abroad. This city is known as the textile City for the same reason. As the city is nearly 35 km from Delhi. it lies in NCR ( National Capital Region) area, now an emerging place for Higher Education Institutes.
- Pilkhuwa has more than 15 colleges in fields of Medicine, Engineering, Law and many others. Decent number of schools are also in the city. Popular schools in Pilkhuwa include Rajputana Regiment Inter college, St. Xavier's Convent School,Vibgyor International School, VIP Public School, Sarvodya Inter College, Marwar Inter College, Marwar Girls Inter College and K.M.S Inter College etc. Numerous schools for primary education are also established in the city to cater to local education. Lala Shambhu Dayal D.A.V. Public School established in 1995 in fond memory of Late Lala Shambhu Dayal (Mukhtyar) and governed under chairmanship of his son, Late Sh. Narendra Pratap Gupta, has kept the vision of imparting best education over the years. All schools are affiliated to either CBSE, ICSE, or the UP State Board.
Due to low cost of processing and abundant resources, multiple companies in Information Technology are opening their offices in Pilkhuwa, Pilkhuwa is also served by several NGO's like Rajeev Gandhi Mission of Computer Education, UPDESCO, Ablaze Educational Society and more.Apart from this, city is now the next destination of new face of development as big players in Real Estate are moving toward the City as it is near the projected Famous Reliance Power Plant & NTPC Dadri is already in production. The City is on the Delhi-Lucknow national highway (NH 24). The railway station serves regular passenger trains to Delhi on Lucknow and Haldwani line. Buses are frequently available to travel to and fro from Delhi, and other parts of UP. Pilkhuwa has rich cultural heritage, some of the famous temples include Chandi Devi Mandir, Radha Krishan Mandir etc.
Higher education
There are four Engineering Colleges RKGEC,Sarswati engineering college, Satyam College of Engineering, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology situated in the city. Monad University situated in Nizampur is 5–6 km distant from here. There are two medical colleges Saraswati Medical College & Rama Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre that provides medical education and medical assistance.

Divine Garden
A unique garden of spiritual & religious species has been developed at Chandi Devi Mandir of Pilkhuwa, all divine trees are planted here namely Nakshatra Vatika, Navgriha Vatika, Raashi Vriksha, Tridev Vriksha, Kalpavriksha, Rudraksha etc., as per Hindu methodology these plants have much more positive aura and give energy & medicine.

Dharmesh Tomer is the MLA of Pilkhuwa Dholana Vidhan Sabha constituency.
Infrastructure and facilities
City provides business land and other amenities at low price compare to other developed cities as it is in developing phase. So business is moving towards the pilkhuwa. Some major market players are investing towards the city as Larsen & Toubro has opened its construction skills training institue. And also providing the infrastructure for various type of educational institutes to make the city education hub as well.
As the development is going on because of declaration as a satellite city. To control the traffic inside the city, over bridges are currently in construction phase to make the life easy.City provides the better connectivity to Delhi and to other cities of INDIA via road. City has the good Railways infrastructure with the computerized ticketing and reservation facility and expansion of Railway line as an electric line is currently in progress.
Contribution in Freedom Struggle
The king of Mukimpur who dare to help Bahadur Shah Zafar then king of india against britishers. Later on British Army Bombard the Palace, Meanwhile Baba Gulab Singh arranged to send Bahadur Shah Zafer safely to calcutta. He got martyrdom on Hindon River bank during independence war fought on 30th, 31 May 1857.
Modern India Rajputana Influence
Has the large population of Rajput's in the area and in nearby villages. It has the intermediate college Rajputana Regiment Intermediate college having the statue of Anangpal Tomar in it.
