Prince Alexander of Sweden, Duke of Södermanland (Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil; born 19 April 2016 at Danderyds sjukhus, Stockholm[1]) is a Swedish prince and the only child of Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland, and his wife Princess Sofia, Duchess of Värmland. He is the fifth grandchild and third grandson of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. He is the youngest member of the Swedish Royal Family and is fifth in the line of succession to the Swedish throne.

Birth

On 15 October 2015, it was announced that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were expecting their first child in April 2016.[2]

Prince Alexander was born on 19 April 2016 at 18:25 CET at Danderyd Hospital in Danderyd, Sweden.[3][4] He weighed 3.595 kg (7.93 lb) and measured 49 cm (19 in) at birth.[5] The birth was celebrated with a 21-gun salute from Skeppsholmen in Stockholm on 20 April.[6] His name and title were announced by the King on 21 April 2016.[6][7]

A Te Deum thanksgiving service was held in his honour on 22 April 2016.
