The A10 Avonside class steam locomotive was a 2-4-0 locomotive of the Queensland Railways (QR).

The locomotives operated on 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) gauge. The “A”, is used to identify the number of coupled wheels, being four coupled wheels for the A10 class, followed by numerals indicating the cylinder diameter of ten inches.

Builder

The A10 Avonside locomotives were ordered from Slaughter/Grüning, Bristol,[1] UK in 1864, in which time the company became known as Avonside Engine Company.

History

An A10 Avonside known as Lady Bowen held the honour of running the first train on Queensland's Railways in 1865 between Bigge's Camp (now Grandchester) and Ipswich.
