Rockridge is an unincorporated community in McDowell County, West Virginia. It was originally named Collins Ridge for the large number of residents with the surname Collins. The majority of the residents from this particular region of McDowell County are direct descendants of the Ulster-Scots and Cherokee Native American tribe. The industry is the Rockridge area is generally based upon coal mining.
