Rosalie Elizabeth Smith is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Waukesha, Wisconsin, who was crowned Miss Wisconsin 2015. She competed for the Miss America 2016 title in September 2015.
Pageant career
In March 2015, Smith entered her first pageant at the suggestion of a local pageant director.[2] She won the competition and was crowned Miss New Berlin on March 14, 2015.[3][4][5] David Ament, the Mayor of New Berlin, Wisconsin, proclaimed March 14, 2015, as "Miss New Berlin Day".[3]
She entered the Miss Wisconsin pageant in June 2015 as one of 26 qualifiers for the state title.[6][7] Smith's competition talent was a lyrical contemporary dance to "Heaven" by Beyoncé.[2] Her platform is "Centered On Loving In Need" which seeks to increase assistance and acceptance for people dealing with alcohol and drug addiction.[8][9] The platform's acronym, COLIN, is a tribute to Smith's brother Colin who died suddenly in 2013 after a long struggle with alcoholism.[2][10][11][12]
Smith won the competition at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Saturday, June 20, 2015, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Wisconsin titleholder Raeanna Johnson.[2][6][13] She earned more than $10,000 in scholarship money and other prizes from the state pageant.[7][12] Smith was also presented the Health and Sciences Award as well as the Jean L. Anderson Evening Wear Award.[13] As Miss Wisconsin, her activities include public appearances across the state of Wisconsin.[7][14]
Vying for Miss America 2016
Smith was Wisconsin's representative at the Miss America 2016 pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September 2015.[9][11][15] For the national competition, Smith renamed her platform "Colin's Crusade: Breaking the Barriers of Addiction".[4] In the televised finale on September 13, 2015, she placed outside the Top 15 semi-finalists and was eliminated from competition. She was awarded a $3,000 scholarship prize as her state's representative.[16][17]
Early life and education
Smith is a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and a 2014 graduate of Waukesha North High School.[1][4][8]
Smith is a student at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee where she studies nursing.[2][8] She is a member of the UWM Panther Dance Team.[4][18]
