SM Station is a digital music channel project in South Korea, operated by S.M. Entertainment. It was created on February 3, 2016 and undertook to release one single every week for a year.[1]

Background and release

S.M. Entertainment's founding chairman Lee Soo Man announced SM Station as a part of the agency's "New Culture Technology" project during a press conference on January 27, 2016. Through this channel, S.M. Entertainment would release a new single every week for the year of 2016.[2] The project will showcase S.M. Entertainment artists and producers and include collaborations with artists outside of the label.[3] Following the release of Taeyeon's "Rain" on February 3, a new single will be released every Friday beginning February 19.[1]

Notable singles

The first single to be released under SM Station was "Rain" by Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, which was released on February 3, 2016.[1] On February 19, D.O. of EXO and S.M. Entertainment producer Yoo Young-jin released the project's first collaboration single "Tell Me (What Is Love)".[4] Yoon Mi-rae became the first non-S.M. Entertainment artist to become part of the project and released "Because Of You" on February 26.[5]

On March 4, S.M. Entertainment released "Spring Love" by Red Velvet's Wendy and non-S.M. Entertainment artist, Eric Nam, the first collaboration with a non-S.M. Entertainment artist.[6]

On April 15, S.M. Entertainment released 'Narcissus' by Super Junior's Kim Hee-chul and non-S.M. Entertainment artist, Mamamoo's Jung Whee-In.
