Sehun was first scouted by an S.M. Entertainment casting agent at 12 years old while he was out having lunch with friends. While at first running away from the agent for 30 minutes and being chased down the streets, he was eventually cast into S.M. Entertainment in 2008. He went through four auditions in two years.

On January 10, 2012, Sehun was officially introduced as the fifth member of EXO.

Solo activities

Sehun made a brief appearance in Girls' Generation-TTS's music video for "Twinkle" alongside fellow members Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Kai in 2012.

On August 17, 2012 Sehun danced with BoA for the duet dance part of her song "Only One" on Music Bank.[3] He also made a special appearance as the male lead in BoA's music video for "Who Are You" from her album Kiss My Lips.[4] The music video was released on May 5, 2015.

On March 14, 2016, Sehun was confirmed to star as the male lead in the Korean-Chinese movie Catman.[5] The film is expected to be released during the first half of 2017.
