In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the shrieker is a plant.

Publication history

The shrieker first appeared in Dungeons & Dragons in The Strategic Review #3 (August 1975).

The shrieker appeared in first edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in the original Monster Manual (1977).[1]

The shrieker appeared in the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (1977, 1981, 1983) and the Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia (1991).[2]

The shrieker appeared in second edition under the "fungus" entry in the Monstrous Compendium Volume Two (1989),[3] and reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[4]

The shrieker appeared in third edition under the "fungus" entry in the Monster Manual (2000),[5] and in the 3.5 revised Monster Manual (2003).

Description

The shrieker resembles a large fungus. The shrieker shares a symbiotic relationship with the violet fungus in order to catch food. The shrieker emits a high-pitched wail to lure prey, and when it comes, the violet fungi attack with their tentacles.
