Girlfriends Films (or GFF) is an American pornographic film studio based in Valencia, California[4] and founded by Dan O'Connell and another gentleman who goes by the professional pseudonym of "Moose" (who serve as president and vice-president, respectively) in 2002.[1][2][3][5]

Management

The studio was founded by Dan O'Connell and "Moose" (who serve as president and vice-president, respectively) in 2002.[1][2][3][5]

On January 1, 2014 it was announced that Moose had purchased O'Connell's interest in the company and that O'Connell will retain ownership of Groundwork Visions, the production company behind his Girlfriends movies to date, while entering into an arrangement to continue shooting movies exclusively for the studio.[6]

Operations

The studio specializes in lesbian-themed films.[7] O'Connell writes and directs 95% of the films,[3][8] and he has stated that the studio makes the effort to cast actual lesbian or bisexual women, rather than casting women that are gay-for-pay.[8] GFF operates a Studio system program with exclusive contract performers similar to Vivid Entertainment's Vivid Girls.

GFF also films across the United States and in other countries with two European based series, one shot in Hungary and the other in the Czech Republic.[9]

On December 16, 2012, the studio moved from its home of six years in Reseda, California to a new 37,000 square foot facility in Valencia, California.[10]

GFF operates a video on demand website in addition to selling DVDs of its productions.[11] Launched in October 2013, via a licensing deal with LFP Broadcasting, who owns Hustler TV and New Frontier Media, the studio also provides content for a cable channel based exclusively on its productions.[6][12]

Major productions/Series

Girlfriend Films produces many series that are themed within different lesbian genres. Some series include:

Women Seeking Women
Lesbian Seductions
Mother Daughter Exchange Club
Road Queen

And many more

Marketing

GFF operates a free, open membership forum for its fans and encourages its performers to participate as well.[13]

In the media

GFF was featured in a news story by Miami's CBS 4 Nightly News on May 9, 2011. The story was about the adult industry's increased presence in South Florida.[14] Regarding the story and filming scenes in South Florida, GFF Vice President was quoted as saying, "From a business standpoint, porn customers are all over the world," "Much of the money they pay for their movies comes right here to pay local models and other employees of adult businesses. They, in turn, spend nearly all of it within 20 miles of where they live. So, adult movie making is the perfect business model for funneling money from around the world to a local economy. Also, compared to many local businesses, the adult industry makes very little impact on our environment and eco system."

Philanthropy

GFF donates money to various organizations designated by their performers on a regular basis via a charity program.[15] Each month the studio selects an performer from received entries and makes a $1,000 donation in her name to a specified charity. In 2011 donations included Melissa Monet's choice of Planned Parenthood, Lily Cade's selection of Lambda Legal and Ryan Keely's pick of NPR.

GFF has a long history of giving having donated over $20,000 in a single year. Previously the studio made an annual end-of-year donation until it as changed to an ongoing, monthly program.[15]
