Sucker Flat (formerly, Gatesville)^[2] is an unincorporated community in Yuba County, California. It is located just northeast of Smartsville,^[2] at an elevation of 587 feet (179 m).

Gatesville was named for an early settler from Illinois.^[2] Sucker is from the nickname of Illinois as the "Sucker State".^[2]
