The Anarchists is a scholarly overview of anarchist history by the historian James Joll. The Anarchists was first published in 1964; the second edition was published in 1979. On publication of the first edition, Kirkus Reviews wrote: “It is a many-leveled account of the movement from its Enlightenment glimmerings to its swan-song during the Spanish Civil War, quite possibly the best thing of its kind since To the Finland Station."
