This is a timeline of the War in Donbass, from 1 April 2016. The timeline follows an ongoing conflict between Ukraine and anti-government pro-Russian separatists supported by Russian troops[1] in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

April

1 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 77 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 31 March.[2][3][4][5][6][7] Separatists authorities recorded 63 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used heavy machine guns, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm guns and 152 mm howitzers. The main targets were pro-Russian positions around Horlivka, Zaitseve, Holmivsky, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Zhabicheve, Sakhanka, Vesele, Kominternove, Donetsk airport and Petrovsky district in Donetsk city.[8]

The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO, polkovnyk Andriy Lysenko, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and eight others wounded in the Donbass region during the last day of March.[9][10] According to Lysenko the net weight of explosives – delivered by more than 100 artillery rounds and more than 370 mortar shells on 31 March – exceeded 6.5 tons.[9]

Ukrainian authorities denounced that pro-Russian forces opened fire on 36 occasions on Ukrainian positions throughout the day.[11][12]

The White House announced that it will provide Ukraine with $335 million more in "security assistance" after a meeting between Vice President of the United States Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that took place in Washington on March 31.[13]

2 April

In the morning it was reported by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 65 occasions on Ukrainian troops over the past 24 hours. On 12 occasions the fire was returned.[14][15][16] Four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded as a consequence of the attacks.[17][18]

Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 6 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day. The rebels fired mortar barrages at Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka and Pisky. Small arms and sniper fire was reported at Opytne and Butivka mining complex, west of Donetsk city, and at Novozvanivka, Luhansk Oblast.[19]

3 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 25 occasions on 2 March, including on 7 occasions from weapons banned by the Minsk agreements.[20][21][22][23] The fire was returned on four occasions.[24] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, polkovnyk Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region during on 2 April.[25][26]

By evening, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 6 occasions. Most incidents occurred in the region of Mariupol, where the rebels shelled Shyrokyne with 120 mm mortars. Ukrainian troops at Hranitne and Novotroitske received automatic fire, while small arms and heavy machine guns were fired at Ukrainian redoubts at Maiorsk, west of Horlivka.[27][28]

4 April

The Ukrainian military reported in the morning that their positions were fired at by pro-Russian forces on 23 occasions on 3 March, including on 16 occasions in Donetsk direction, on 5 occasions in Mariupol direction, and on on 2 occasions in Luhansk Oblast. The Ukrainian army fired back on four occasions.[29][30][31] Three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action on Sunday, 3 April.[32] Separatist authorities reported 25 attacks on their forces over the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian army used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The Ukrainian troops targeted Yasinuvata, Spartak, Kominternove, Dokuchaievsk, Sakhanka, Donetsk airport and Petrovsky district.[33]

The number of attacks on Ukrainian positions had increased to 26, if compared to the previous day, the spokesman ot the Ukrainian military headquarters reported in the evening. Pro-Russian forces fired small arms, rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars at the Ukrainian strongholds of Avdiivka, west of Donetsk city, Novhorodske, west of Horlivka, and Novozvanivka, in the northern section of the demarcation line. The rebels also shelled Ukrainian redoubts with heavy weaponry all along the front. The main targets were Opytne and Krasnohorivka, around Donetsk city; Shyrokyne and Novotroitske, in the region north of Mariupol; Zaitseve, north of Horlivka and Stanytsia Luhanska, the Ukrainian headquarters in the northern front. The Ukrainian army returned fire three times in the course of the day.[34] Pro-Russian authorities said that Ukrainian tanks shelled the rebel-held village of Trudovske, in the outskirts of Donetsk.[35]

5 April

Ukrainian officials recorded 61 attacks on their troops over the past 24 hours.[36][37][38][39] Two Ukrainian soldiers were killed in action and another 10 wounded during the same period.[40] Separatists sources reported 49 Ukrainian attacks on pro-Russian positions using small arms, rocket propelled grenades, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. The Ukrainian army pounded rebel redoubts at Sakhanka, Horlivka, Staromyhailivka, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Kominternove, Donetsk airport and Petrovsky district.[41]

By evening, Ukrainian positions had been fired at on 40 occasions by the rebels. Avdiivka was once again the main target of pro-Russian forces. Heavy shelling on the Ukrainian stronghold was reported in the morning from 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, along with small arms fire, heavy machine gun fire and rocket launchers. Nearby Opytne and Maryinka were also the target of heavy weapons. North of Horlivka, Ukrainian troops at Zaitseve and Luhanske also received intense enemy fire. In the region of Mariupol, 82 mm mortar rounds landed at Lebedinske, while small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers were fired at Ukrainian redoubts in Novotroitske and Vodyane. The Ukrainian military returned fire on seven opportunities from Avdiivka and Lebedinske.[42]

6 April

The Ukrainian military reported that separatists forces opened fire on 76 occasions on their positions over the past 24 hours, 23 of them using weaponry banned by the Minsk agreements.[43] Four Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in action.[44][45] Pro-Russian authorities recorded 34 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. Ukrainian forces used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Most incidents took place at Zaitseve, Sakhanka, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Staromyhailivka, Kominternove and Donetsk airport.[46]

By evening, pro-Russian troops had broken the ceasefire 15 times. The industrial area of Avdiivka, west of Donetsk city, was struck six times by mortar and artillery barrages. Mortar rounds also landed in Nevelske and Krasnohorivka. The militias harassed Ukrainian troops at Opytne and Butivka mining complex with small arms fire. Sniper activity was reported at Maryinka. Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol, was the target of mortar fire, and Ukrainian positions at Luhanske, north of Horlivka, received small arms fire.[47]

A Ukrainian soldier died from numerous wounds in Kharkiv military hospital.[48]

7 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 67 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 6 April. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, in the region north of Horlivka, where the rebels also shelled Novhorodske and Zaitseve with mortars and harassed Ukrainian troops with small arms and sniper fire. Around Donetsk city, mortars of different caliber landed in Avdiivka, Opytne, Nevelske and Butivka mining complex. Maryinka was the target of small arms, rocket launchers and antiaircraft cannons. In the region around Mariupol, mortar volleys were fired at Shyrokyne and Krasnohorivka. Pro-Russian forces fired automatic grenade launchers and antiaircraft cannons at Ukrainian positions near Novozvanivka, in the northern front. The Ukrainian army returned fire on 10 occasions.[49][50] The Ukrainian military reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman had been wounded in action in Avdiivka on 6 April.[51][52] Separatists authorities recorded 42 violations of the truce by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket propelled grenades, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Yasinuvata, Vesele, Vasiliivka, Spartak, Kominternove, Bezimenne, Leninske, Volvo center, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[53]

The separatists opened fire on 23 occasions throughout the day. The main target of the rebels was once again Avdiivka, where nine attacks on Ukrainian defences took place. In the same area, the Ukrainian garrisons at Opytne and Butivka mining complex received small arms and heavy machine gun fire. Mortar rounds landed in Nevelske. Ukrainian outposts at Vodyane, north of Mariupol, were fired at from automatic weapons, while Luhanske, north of Horlivka, was the target of mortar fire. In the northern front, pro-Russian forces opened fire with small arms and rocket launchers on Ukrainian redoubts at Trokhizbenka and Stanytsia Luhanska. Ukrainian troops returned fire three times.[54]

8 April

Ukrainian officials recorded 70 attacks on their troops over the past 24 hours.[55][56][57] One Ukrainian soldier was killed in action and another 12 wounded during the same period. [58] Ukrainian forces shot down a Russian-made Orlan-10 drone over Avdiivka.[59] Pro-Russian authorities denounced 82 Ukrainian attacks on rebel positions over the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian army used small arms, grenade launchers 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm guns and 152 mm howitzers. Ukrainian tanks shelled Horlivka, Shyroka Balka, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport. Holmivsky and Spartak received heavy artillery fire. Hrihorivka, Sakhanka, Kominternove, Vesele and Zaitseve were struck by mortar barrages.[60]

By evening, Ukrainian positions had been fired at on 29 occasions by the rebels, including 13 occasions near Avdiivka, which was the target of incendiary rounds on six instances. Other attacks were carried out by rebel infantry and snipers. Elsewhere around Donetsk city, Pisky was the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. In the region between Horlivka and Svetlodarsk, the separatists targeted Ukrainian outposts at Maiorsk, Novhorodske and Zaitseve with the same kind of weapons. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske. In the region of Mariupol, the rebels opened up with heavy weapons on Vodyane, Shyrokyne, Novotroitske and Maryinka. Self-propelled artillery shelled the Ukrainian stronghold of Pavlopil.[61][62][63]

9 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 73 occasions on 8 March, including on 25 occasions in the areas surrounding Avdiivka. The fire was returned on 18 occasions.[64][65][66][67] Five Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in action over the past 24 hours, including four of them in the region of Avdiivka, and the fifth in the region of Donetsk airfield. An elderly female civilian was killed in Avdiivka after midnight.[68]<ref= name=0412/> Separatist sources recorded 54 Ukrainain violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, and self-propelled 152 mm artillery. The main targets were Zaitseve, Zhavichebe, Yakovlivka, Sakhanka, Dokuchaievsk, Spartak, Oktyabr, Yasinuvata, Vesele, Donetsk airport and Petrovsky district. One rebel soldier was killed in action and two civilians wounded.[69] Heavy fighting was also reported at Avdiivka.[70]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 35 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day. Most incidents took place around Donetsk city, specially at Avdiivka. Rebel troops fired small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket propelled grenades at Ukrainian redoubts in Verkhnetoretske, Nevelske and Opytne. Small arms fire was reported at Pisky. In the outskirts of Horlivka, pro-Russian forces attacked Ukrainian entrenchments with small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers near Maiorsk and Novoselivka. The Ukrainian garrison at Luhanske was harassed with automatic fire. Mortar volleys landed six times in Shyrokyne. Once again, Ukrainian forces fired back.[71][72][73]

Amnesty International has said it has evidence pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine summarily killed four Ukrainian soldiers in their captivity.[74]

10 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 91 occasions on 9 March. West of Donetsk, Avdiivka was shelled from three different locations -Yakolivka, Mineralne and Yasinuvata- with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Pro-Russian tanks fired 125 mm rounds on Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, north of Horlivka.[75][76][77] Six Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action over the past 24 hours, including four of them in the region of Avdiivka, and two as a result of explosion of a booby trap.[78] A female civilian was killed in Avdiivka.[79] According to separatists sources, Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on 27 occasions. The Ukrainians opened up with small arms, rocket launchers, armoured fighting vehicles, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm guns. Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Krutaya Balka, Yasinuvata, Sakhanka, Shyrokyne, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport.[80]

By evening, pro-Russian troops had broken the ceasefire 28 times. The rebels opened fire with small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers on Ukrainian positions at Troitske, Maryinka and Opytne, around Donetsk city; at Luhanske, north of Horlivka, and at Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol. The Ukrainian garrisons at Zaitseve, north of Horlivka, Hranitne, north of Mariupol and Pisky, west of Donetsk city, were the target of small arms fire.[81][82]

11 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 64 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 10 April.[83][84][85][86] Two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action.[87] Pro-Russian sources recorded 42 attacks on their positions during the same period. The Ukrainian troops used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. Most incidents took place in Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Spartak, Olenivka, Mineralne, Kominternove, Novomarivka, Sakhanka, Volvo center and Petrovsky district.[88]

There were 29 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. Ukrainian troops returned fire on several occasions. In the surroundings of Donetsk, Avdiivka was pounded with 120 mm mortar barrages, while 82 mm mortar rounds landed in Pisky. The rebels attacked Ukrainian troops at Opytne, Butivka mining complex, Nevelske and Maryinka with small arms, sniper fire, heavy machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened fire on Ukrainian redoubts at Novotroitske, north of Mariupol. Nearby Hnutove was the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. The same kind of weapons were fired on Ukrainian troops at Zaitseve, north of Horlivka, and Stanytsia Luhanska, in the northern front.[89]

12 April

The Ukrainian military reported that separatist forces opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 79 occasions on the past 24 hours. Ukrainian troops fired back on nine instances. Avdiivka was the target of small arms and mortars 19 times. The rebels fired 82 mm and 120 mm mortars on Ukrainian positions at Luhanske, Maiorsk, and Zaitseve, around Horlivka, and Kamyanka, west of Donetsk. Small arms fire was reported at Nevelske, Maryinka and Opytne, around Donetsk city, Zaitseve, Hranitne, north of Mariupol, and Stanytsia Luhanska, Luhansk Oblast, in the northern part of the front. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, north of Horlivka, Novotroitske, in the region of Mariupol, and Butivka mining complex, in the outskirts of Donetsk city.[90][91][92] Three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in action.[93] Pro-Russian authorities reported 30 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian army used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm guns. The main targets were rebel positions at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Dokuchaievsk, Yasinuvata, Vesele, Zhabicheve, Kominternove, Leninsky district and Donetsk airport.[94]

By evening, rebel troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 31 occasions. Ukrainian forces returned fire seven times. Around Donetsk city, the separatists opened fire on nine occasions on Avdiivka using small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and mortars. Ukrainian troops launched a counter attack in the area of Mineralne. The Ukrainian checkpoint at Maryinka was the target of hostile snipers, and 82 mm mortar rounds landed in Opytne. In the region of Horlivka, pro-Russian armoured vehicles shelled Ukrainian redoubts at Novhorodske, supported by 82 mm mortar volleys. The rebels also fired mortar barrages at Zaitseve. Separatist forces harassed Ukrainian troops with small arms and automatic grenade launchers at Trokhizbenka, in the northern sector of the demarcation line.[95]

The United Nations reported on Tuesday, 12 April, that one of its staff members had been captured by pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine's separatist east.[96][97] Pro-Russian forces reported that they had captured a colonel of Ukraine's Security Service, not representative of the United Nations.[98]

13 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 87 occasions on 12 March.[99][100][101][102] Eight Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action over the past 24 hours.[103] According to separatist officials, the Ukrainian army broke the truce on 31 occasions. The Ukrainians used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and 122 mm guns. Most incidents took place at Zaitseve, Makiivka, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Dokuchaievsk, Kominternove, Zhabicheve, Sakhanka, Petrovsky district and Donetsk airport. One rebel soldier was killed in action.[104]

Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 32 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day; the fire was returned on three occasions. Avdiivka was targeted 15 times with small arms and mortar fire. Ukrainian troops at nearby Pisky were harassed with small arms fire, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Sniper activity was reported at Maryinka. Around Horlivka, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars landed in Maiorsk and Zaitseve, which was also the target of 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Ukrainian positions at Vodyane, north of Mariupol, were shelled from both light and heavy mortars.[105]

14 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 80 occasions on 13 March; the fire was returned on 12 occasions. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Opytne, west of Donetsk airport, with the support of 152 mm self-propelled artillery and mortar barrages. The main target was once again the Ukrainian stronghold of Avdiivka. The rebels shelled with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars Maiorsk and Zaitseve, in the outskirts of Horlivka, Pisky, southwest of Donetsk city, and Trokhizbenka, in the northern section of the demarcation line. Mulitple-weapons attacks took place in several places such as Maryinka, Butivka mining complex, Verkhnetoretske, Luhanske, Svetlodarsk and Zolote.[106][107][108] One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and another wounded in action over the past 24 hours.[109] Pro-Russian authorities recorded 59 Ukrainian attacks on rebel positions. Ukrainian forces used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks, 122 mm guns and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. Sakhanka, Petrovske, Panteleymonivka, Zhabicheve, Staromyhailivka, Vesele, Horlivka, Yasinuvata, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[110]

Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 50 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day. The industrial area of Avdiivka was targeted nine times since the early hours: the separatists fired small arms and rocket propelled grenades. also around Donetsk city, 82 mm mortar rounds landed in Butivka mining complex, and 120 mm shells in Opytne. Ukrainian troops at Maryinka were harassed with small arms and rocket launchers. Ukrainian defences at Novotroitske, north of Mariupol, were struck by antiaircraft direct fire from Zu-23-2 cannons. North of Horlivka, Zaitseve was shelled with 82 mm mortar rounds. Rocket propelled grenades landed in Luhanske, which was also the target of automatic fire.[111][112][113]

14 April marked the second anniversary of the beginning of the war.[112][114]

15 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 104 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 14 April; the fire was returned on 16 occasions.[115][116][117] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and three others wounded in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours; one female civilian was injured by explosion of a booby trap in Luhansk Oblast.[118] According to separatist officials, the Ukrainian army opened fire on pro-Russian positions on 39 occasions using small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 122 mm guns. Two Ukrainian drones were shot down over Torez.[119]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had fired Ukrainian positions on 25 occasions; the fire was returned on three occasions. Ukrainian officials acknowledged that the relentless attack on the strongholds of Avdiivka, west of Donetsk city, and Taramchuk and Berezove, north of Mariupol, made the situation in those areas untenable. The separatist fired heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars and antitank guided missile launchers. In other sections of the demarcation line around Donetsk city, Horlivka and Mariupol, pro-Russian forces harassed Ukrainian defences at Verkhnetoretske, Butivka mining complex, Maiorsk, Luhanske and Shyrokyne. In the northern front, Ukrainian troops were the target of hostile fire at Stanytsia Luhanska and Krimsky.[120][121][122]

16 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 61 occasions on 15 March; the fire was returned on 15 occasions.[123][124][125] Two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action over the past 24 hours.[126] According to rebel sources, the Ukrainian army broke the ceasefire 33 times over the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian troops used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to attack pro-Russian positions at Zaitseve, Kominternove, Sakhanka, Horlivka, Zhabicheve, Yasinuvata, Staromyhailivka, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[127]

By evening, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 24 occasions. The rebels attacked the industrial area of Avdiivka with small arms, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and mortars. Hostile snipers fired upon Ukrainian troops at Berezove, north of Mariupol, which was also the target of 82 mm mortars. Other attacks took place at Hranitne and Novotroitske, in the region of Mariupol, Maryinka, west of Donetsk, Luhanske, north of Horlivka, and Popasna and Stanytsia Luhanska, in the northern section of the demarcation line.[128][129][130]

17 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 50 occasions on Ukrainian troops on Saturday, 16 April, including on 15 occasions in the areas surrounding Avdiivka; the fire was returned on 8 occasions.[131][132][133][134] One Ukrainian serviceman was killed and three others wounded in action over the past 24 hours.[135] Two civil volunteers from Kyiv region were wounded near the village of Pisky.[136][137] Separatist officials recorded 51 Ukrainian attacks on pro-Russian positions. The Ukrainian army used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Most incidents occurred at Panteleymonivka, Zaitseve, Ozeryanivka, Horlivka, Dokuchaievsk, Sakhanka, Yasne, Vesele, Spartak, Yasinuvata, Kominternove, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[138]

Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 21 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day. The rebels harassed Ukrainian positions at Avdiivka, Maryinka and Butivka mining complex, in the area west of Donetsk city; Luhanske and Leninske, in the region north of Horlivka, and Starohnativka and Shyrokyne, in the surroundings of Mariupol. The separatists opened fire with small arms, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and antitank missile launchers. In the northern front, pro-Russian forces from Frunze shelled Ukrainian redoubts at Krimsky with automatic grenade launchers and 82 mm mortars.[139][140]

18 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire along the whole front line on 79 occasions over the past 24 hours. The fire was returned on 18 occasions. One Russian-made drone was shot down at Novoselivka, near Volnovakha.[141][142][143] Pro-Russian sources recorded 54 violations of the truce by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian army used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 122 mm artillery. The main incidents took place at Horlivka, Zaitseve, Dokuchaievsk, Ozeryanivka, Shyroka Balka, Vesele, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Zhabicheve, Sakhanka, Leninske, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[144]

The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO, Andriy Lysenko reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours. One Ukrainian serviceman died when the vehicle he was driving hit a landmine in Stanytsia Luhanska, in the northern section of the front.[145][146] Also at Stanytsia Luhanska, Luhansk Oblast administration reported that four soldiers and a border guard were wounded whiile on a foot patrol after an ambush by pro-Russian forces. The rebels fired small arms, heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers at the Ukrainian servicemen.[147] One female civilian was injured in Zaitseve due to shelling.[148]

Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 18 attacks on Ukrainian troops throughout the day. The separatist fired 82 mm and 120 mm mortar volleys on the Ukrainian strongholds of Avdiivka, Nevelske and Krasnohorivka, west of Donetsk city, Novhorodske, west of Horlivka, and Taramchuk and Slavne, north of Mariupol. Novotroitske and Berezove, also in the Mariupol area, were pounded by 122 mm artillery rounds. Several Ukrainian positions along the demarcation line were harassed with small arms fire, heavy machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades.[149][150]

19 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 46 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 18 April, the fire was returned on 19 occasions.[151][152][153] Eight Ukrainian serviceman were wounded in action in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours.[154][155] Separatist officials recorded 38 attacks on pro-Russian positions. The Ukrainian army used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fightign vehicles and tanks. The Ukrainian forces attacked the rebel strongholds of Horlivka, Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Ozeryanivka, Mikhaylivka, Dokuchaievsk, Olenivka, Yasne, Panteleymonivka, Vesele, Vasilivka, Yasinuvata, Spartak, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[156]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on eight occasions. The Ukrainian army returned fire at least once. The rebels shelled Avdiivka and Opytne, west of Donetsk city, and Leninske, north of Horlivka, with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Leninske, along with Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol, was also the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.[157]

20 April

The Ukrainian military reported 23 attacks on their positions over the last 24 hours.[158][159][160] Three Ukrainian soldiers were killed in action and five others wounded in the same period.[161][162] According to pro-Russian sources, the Ukrainian military opened fire on separatist troops on 56 occasions. The Ukrainians used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles, tanks and 152 mm howitzers. Most incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Horlivka, Shyroka Balka, Holmivsky, Nikitovka, Verkhnetoretske, Vesele, Zhabicheve, Yasinuvata, Kominternove, Spartak, Sakhanka, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[163]

The Ukrainian military said that pro-Russian forces broke the ceasefire on 11 occasions throughout the day. The majority of the attacks took place around Donetsk city and Mariupol. The Ukrainian garrisons of Avdiivka and Maryinka west of Donetsk, and Vodyane, Berezove and Shyrokyne, in the region of Mariupol, were the target of small arms, heavy machine guns and grenade launchers. Talakivka, east of Mariupol, was struck by 82 mm mortar fire. The Ukrainian army returned fire on several occasions.[164]

The OSCE mission reported an increase of hostilities around Stanytsia Luhanska since 17 April, when they recorded more than 300 explosions. The rebels fired from entrenchments south of the town with automatic grenade launchers, mortars, 30 mm cannons from armoured fighting vehicles and heavy artillery.[165]

21 April

The Ukrainian military reported 33 attacks on their positions over the last 24 hours. The militias fired 120 mm mortar rounds on Popasna, in the northern front, and 82 mm mortar rounds on Zaitseve, north of Horlivka with 82 mm. Ukrainian troops fired back on 14 occasions.[166][167] Four Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action on 20 April.[168] Separatist authorities recorded 22 attacks on their forces over the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian army made use of small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The main targets were Yasinuvata, Kominternove, Petrovsky district, Volvo center and Donetsk airport.[169]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on nine occasions. Mortar rounds landed in Avdiivka and Shyrokyne. Ukrainian positions at Pervomaisk and Trudovske were also targeted. The rebels used small arms, automatic grenade launchers and antitank missiles launchers. The Ukrainian army returned fire twice with heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.[170]

22 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 30 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 21 April, including on 7 occasions from weapons banned by the Minsk agreements. The fire was returned on 7 occasions.[171][172][173] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours.[174] Pro-Russian officials denounced 21 violations of the truce by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainians used small arms, grenade launchers, 82mm and 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles.[175]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 7 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. Avdiivka was three times the target of 82 mm mortar barrages. Ukrainian redoubts at Trokhizbenka, in the northern section of the demarcation line, and Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol, were pounded with rocket launchers. Also at Shyrokyne, hostile snipers harassed Ukrainian troops.[176][177] The fire was returned on 2 occasions.[178]

23 April

The Ukrainian military reported 19 attacks on their positions over the last 24 hours. Ukrainian troops fired back on 9 occasions.[179][180] Two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action on 22 April.[181] Separatist officials reported 22 Ukrainian violations of the truce over the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. Most incidents occurred at Horlivka, Zaitseve, Yasinuvata, Shyroka Balka, Vasilivka, Dokuchaievs, Panteleymonivka, Krutaya Balka, Yasne, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[182]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on 27 occasions. Ukrainian positions at the industrial area of Avdiivka were the target of continued attacks, specially from 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Mortar rounds also landed in the stronghold of Opytne. Ukrainian redoubts at Maryinka, west of Donetsk city, Berezove and Starohnativka, north of Mariupol, and Zaitseve, in the northern outskirts of Horlivka were pounded with small arms fire, heavy machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. The Ukrainian military acknowledged that they returned fire several times on pro-Russian redoubts at Yasinuvata, Dokuchaievsk and Mineralne firing small arms, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers.[183]

24 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 41 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 23 April.[184][185][186] Three Ukrainian servicemen were killed and another six wounded in action in the Donbas region over the past 24 hours.[187] One of the wounded Ukrainian soldiers died of wounds shortly after.[188] Separatist officials recorded 36 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian army used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars, armoured fightign vehicles and 152 mm self-propelled artillery. The main targets were Sakhanka, Zaitseve, Dokuchaievsk, Trudovske and Donetsk airport.[189]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 9 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. The village of Pravdivka, north of Avdiivka, suffered extensive damage to the local church and civilian residences when shelled with 152 mm howitzers. Avdiivka itself was the target of mortar barrages, as well as Zaitseve, north of Horlivka. Pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Luhanske, in the same area, supported by small arms and grenade launchers. The rebels also fired small arms and rocket propelled grenades at the Ukrainian stronghold of Maryinka, west of Donetsk city.[190]

25 April

The Ukrainian military reported 29 attacks on their positions over the last 24 hours. The fire was returned on 4 occasions.[191][192][193] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO reported at noon that three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours.[188] Pro-Russian sources reported seven Ukrainian violations of the truce. The Ukrainian military used small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The incidents occurred at Yasinuvata, Dokuchaievsk, Spartak, Staromyhailivka and Abakumove.[194]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 14 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day; the fire was returned on 3 occasions. The main target of rebel forces were Ukrainian redoubts around Novotroitske, north of Mariupol, which were pounded with small arms, heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers and 120 mm mortars. The nearby stronghold of Taramchuk was also shelled by the separatists. West of Donetsk city, Ukrainian troops at Avdiivka and Maryinka were harassed with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. Sniper activity was reported at Luhanske, north of Horlivka.[195]

26 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 42 occasions on Ukrainian troops on 25 April, the fire was returned on 13 occasions.[196][197][198] According to the spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO, polkovnyk Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and five others wounded in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours.[199] According to Information Resistance total 20 wounded Ukrainian servicemen were hospitalized on 24 and 25 April.[200] Separatists authorities recorded 21 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian army attacked pro-Russian positions with small arms, rocket propelled grenades, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars, armoured fighting vehicles and tanks. The Ukrainian military fired banned heavy weapons at Yasinuvata, Dokuchaievsk, Zaitseve, Olenivka, Sakhanka and Petrovsky district.[201]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day, most of which took place in the outskirts of Donetsk city. Avdiivka was shelled with 82 mm mortars, while pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened up on Ukrainian redoubts at Krasnohorivka and Slavne, supprted by automatic grenade launchers. Maryinka was the target of small arms, sniper fire, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. The same kind of weapons were used against the Ukrainian strongholds of Novotroitske, north of Mariupol, and Stanytsia Luhanska, in the northern sector of the demarcation line.[202][203]

27 April

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 30 occasions over the past 24 hours.[204][205][206][207] A two-and-a-half-hour long engagement between the warring parties took place in Avdiivka.[208] Five Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action in the Donbass region over the past 24 hours.[209] Separatist authorities reported 16 violations of the ceasefire by Ukrainian troops. The Ukrainian army used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles to target pro-Russian positions at Sakhanka, Kominternove, Olenivka, Yasinuvata, Novomarivka, Zaitseve, Zhabunki, Gagarin mining complex, Donetsk airport and Petrovsky district.[210]

At least four civilians were killed, including a pregnant woman, and many wounded when a checkpoint at Olenivka, south of Donetsk city, was shelled after midnight.[211][212][213][214][215] Pro-Russian sources, who blamed the Ukrainian army for the attack, put the civilian fatalities in the incident at six.[210]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on 10 occasions. In the area around Donetsk, the Ukrainian stronghold of Avdiivka was the target of small arms, heavy machine guns, rocket launchers and 82 mm mortars. In the region of Mariupol, pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened up on Ukrainian redoubts at Taramchuk, while Ukrainian troops at Starohnativka were harassed with small arms fire. Ukrainian positions around Popasna, Luhansk Oblast, in the northern front, also received fire from small caliber weapons.[216]

28 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 29 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours, including on 20 occasions during the last 6 hours of 27 April.[217][218][219] One Ukrainian soldier was reported wounded in action in Maryinka over the past 24 hours.[220][221] Pro-Russian officials reported 28 violations of the truce by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian military used small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The main targets were Sakhanka, Gagarin mining complex, Yasne, Spartak, Dokuchaievsk, Zaitseve, Kominternove, Zhabicheve, Yasinuvata and Petrovsky district.[222]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. The main flashpoint was the Ukrainian stronghold of Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol, where the rebels opened fire with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Sniper activity was reported at Maryinka, east of Donetsk city.[223]

29 April

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 22 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours.[224][225][226] Three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action over the past 24 hours. The casualties occurred in Shyrokyne that is about 10 km east of Mariupol.[227] Separatist sources denounced 28 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire using small arms, grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The main targets were pro-Russian positions at yasinuvata, Shyroka Balka, Yasne, Kominternove, Sakhanka, Dokuchaievsk, Trudovske, Abakumove, Panteleymonivka, Staromyhailivka, Krutaya Balka, Spartak, Zaitseve, Olenivka, Gagarin mining complex and Donetsk airport.[228]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on 14 occasions.[229][230]

The trilateral contact group on Ukraine that met in Belarus capital Minsk said that it will work for the new ceasefire to become effective on 30 April at midnight local time, in coincidence with the celebration of Orthodox Easter. The renewed truce would last in principle until 4 May.[231]

30 April

Ukrainian officials recorded 40 attacks on their troops over the past 24 hours. A pro-Russian drone dropped bombs in the rear guard area of Lozuvatske, northwest of Avdiivka.[232][233][234] According to the spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO two Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action and four others wounded in the Donbass region on 29 April.[235] Separatist sources recorded 41 violations of the truce by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian army opened fire with small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars on pro-Russian positions at Yasinuvata, Zaitseve, Dokuchaievsk, Sakhanka, Oleksandrivka, Kominternove, Zhabicheve, Staromyhalivka and Petrovsky district.[236]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the day. West of Donetsk, Avdiivka and Maryinka were the target of small arms and grenade launchers. In the region of Mariupol, rocket propelled grenades and mortar rounds landed in Vodyane and Shyrokyne. In the northern section of the demarcation line, pro-Russian forces attacked Ukrainian redoubts at Trokhizbenka with machine guns and rocket launchers.[237][238]

May

1 May

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 27 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours. One of the flashpoints was the Ukrainian stronghold of Vodyane, where pro-Russian armoured fighting vehicles opened up on Ukrainian redoubts, supported by 120 mm mortars.[239][240][241] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on issues related to ATO, polkovnyk Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action by a rocket propelled grenade near Svetlodarsk dam, north of Horlivka during the last day of April. Seven others were wounded, five in the industrial area of Avdiivka and two in the region of Mariupol.[242] A Ukrainian soldier died of wounds in Charité hospital Germany. Pro-Russian sniper had wounded him with a dum-dum bullet in Zaitseve on 5 September last year.[243] Rebel sources reported that Ukrainian troops broke the ceasefire on 20 occasions. Two pro-Russian soldiers were killed in action.[244]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had launched no attacks on Ukrainian positions on May Day.[245][246] Separatist authorities recorded instead the shelling of rebel positions at Slavne, west of Olenivka and around Donetsk airport, at Opytne and Avdiivka. The Ukrainian troops fired 120 mm and 82 mm mortars.[247]

2 May

The spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 6 occasions over the past 24 hours. There was harassment fire on Ukrainian positions around Donetsk city and at Shyrokyne, east of Mariupol. Also in the Mariupol area, rocket launchers and antiaircraft cannons were fired at Ukrainian troops near Hranitne.[248][249][250] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region during the first day of May.[251] Eduard Basurin, deputy minister of defence of Donetsk's People Republic, reported nine Ukrainian violations of the Easter ceasefire. The Ukrainian mlitary fired small arms, rocket propelled grenades, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars on pro-Russian positions.The incidents took place at Zaitseve, Shyroka Balka, Olenivka, Zhabicheve, 6-7 coal mine at Horlivka and Donetsk airport.[252]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on 2 occasions. The rebels harassed Ukrainian troops at Luhanske, north of Horlivka, with small arms fire and poured 120 mm mortar shells on Ukrainian positions at Nevelske.[253]

3 May

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Ukrainian operational headquarters in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 5 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours; no ceasefire violations were registered during the first 6 hours of 3 May.[254][255] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action in the Donbass region on 2 May.[256] No ceasefire violations were recorded in Luhansk Oblast.[256] Separatist authorities denounced 14 violations of the ceasefire by Ukrainian troops. The Ukrainian army fired small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars and 120 mm mortars. Ukrainian tanks shelled pro-Russian positions on two occasions. The incidents took place at Zaitseve, Zhdanove, Staromyhailivka, Yasinuvata, Abakumove, Gagarin mining complex and Donetsk airport.[257]

The Ukrainian military reported in the evening that pro-Russian troops had broken the ceasefire on 3 May once – a pro-Russian sniper was active in the region of Maryinka, 21.3 km WSW from the center of Donetsk city.[258][259]

4 May

The spokesman of the ATO HQ reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 6 occasions over the past 24 hours.[260][261][262] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action at Maryinka.[263] A farmer was seriously injured when the tractor he was riding on hit a mine at Hnutove.[263][264] No ceasefire violations were recorded in Luhansk Oblast.[263] Pro-Russian sources recorded 14 Ukrainian violations of the ceasefire. The Ukrainian military pounded rebel positions with small arms, rocket launchers, 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and 122 mm guns. The main incidents occurred at Zaitseve, Sakhanka, Ozeryanivka, Zeleznaya Balka, Yasinuvata and Donetsk airport.[265]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on 5 occasions. The main target of the rebels were Ukrainian strongholds in the region of Mariupol, where 82 mm mortar rounds landed in Shyrokyne and Hnutove. The militias fired small arms and rocket launchers at Ukrainian positions at Vodyane and Novotroitske. Pro-Russian troops harassed Ukrainian redoubts near Luhanske, north of Horlivka, with small arms fire, heavy machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades.[266]

A 62-year-old farmer hit an anti-personnel mine with his tractor in Sartana and was hospitalised for further observation.[267] The similar incident had taken place the previous day at Hnutove.[264] The incident in Sartana was the fourth incident of similar kind since the beginning of 2016, and the ninth since the beginning of ATO in April 2014.[267]

5 May

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the ATO HQ in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 13 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours. No ceasefire violations were recorded during the first 6 hours of 5 May.[268][269][270] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon that two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded by explosion of a landmine in the Donbass region on 4 May.[271] No ceasefire violations were recorded in Luhansk Oblast.[271] Pro-Russian authorities recorded five violations of the ceasefire by Ukrainian forces using small arms, automatic grenade launchers, 82 mm mortars and armoured fighting vehicles. The Ukrainian military opened fire on rebel positions at Shyroka Balka, Kominternove, Dokuchaievsk and Donetsk airport.[272]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire once – sniper activity was reported at Maryinka.[273][274] Separatist sources reported mortar barrages on pro-Russian redoubts at Spartak in the morning, fired by Ukrainian forces from Butivka. Horlivka was the target of Ukrainian troops firing from Svetlodarsk. Explosions were heard from the northwest area of Maryinka.[275]

6 May

The Ukrainian military reported in the morning that pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 11 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours.[276][277][278] One Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action in the Donbass region on 5 May.[279] Pro-Russian reports recorded just one violation of the "silent mode" by the Ukrainian army on 5 May.[280][nb 1] Separatist sources denounced that Ukrainian forces shelled Dokuchaievsk, Donetsk airport and Spartak with 82 mm mortars, 120 mm mortars and antitank guided missiles fired from Novotroitske, Opytne and Butivka mining complex.[281] Another report says that the shelling was preceded by an armoured fighting vehicle attack on Dokuchaievsk, in the industrial area of Donetsk city. Meanwhile, in the northern section of the demarcation line, pro-Russian positions at Kalinove were the target of heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers fired from Ukrainian troops at Novozvanivka. Two rebel soldiers were reported killed and another wounded over the past seven days.[280]

By evening, pro-Russian forces had broken the ceasefire on three occasions. The rebels fired small arms and heavy machine guns at Ukrainian positions in Hranitna and Hnutove, north of Mariupol, and at the stronghold of Avdiivka, west of Donetsk city.[282][283]

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the ATO HQ in the morning, pro-Russian troops had opened fire on 7 occasions on Ukrainian positions over the past 24 hours.[284][285][286] The spokesman of the Presidential Administration on issues related to ATO reported at noon no casualties in the Donbass region on 6 May.[287] Three Ukrainian servicemen were injured by explosion of an unidentified explosion device near the village of Bakhchovyk, Volnovakha region.[287] No ceasefire violations were recorded in Luhansk Oblast.[287]
