Plot

Torchy Blane (Glenda Farrell) writers a series of article criticizing the mayor John Saunders, and exposing local crime boss Dr. Dolan's illegal activity. Torchy is getting all her information straight from the mayor's office, using a listening device. She overhears Dolan telling the mayor about his "little red book" with all his illegal payoffs, and finds the book after breaking into Dolan's house. Dolan report the burglary to police. Torchy writers more article about Dolan's illegal activity, but her story is rejected by her newspaper editor, fearing more syndicate will pull advertising from the paper. Torchy goes to all other newspapers, who all refused to print the story. She decides to print the story herself at a local printing store, owned by Hubert Ward. And distributed the paper around the city with the help of Gahagan (Tom Kennedy).

The resultant publicity forces a recall election with Hubert Ward as the new candidate, standing against the corrupt mayor. However, Dolan murders him. Torchy decides to run for mayor herself and is winning voters. Dolan's gang kidnapped and drugged her. Torchy's boyfriend detective Steve McBride (Barton MacLane) and Gahagan track down the house where Dolan's man is keeping Torchy. McBride and Gahagan fights Dolan and his gang and saves Torchy. A half dozen policeman arrived at the house arresting Dolan's man. Dolan manage to escape in Gahagan's police car, but is killed when the car explodes. Torchy wins the election, but decided that she didn't want to be the mayor.
