TravelTriangle is India's first full stack Holiday Marketplace launched in 2011 as a platform to connect travelers with verified travel agents.[2][3][4] Founded by three IIT graduates Sankalp Agarwal, Sanchit Garg and Prabhat Gupta and based out of Noida, the startup offers holidays to customers from more than 60 countries travelling to 40 destinations.[5] TravelTriangle competes with companies such as Tripoto and Thrillophilia, among others.

History

TravelTriangle came into existence in its current form in 2011, but the thought was seeded a year before that. Three school friends and IITians, Sankalp, Sanchit and Prabhat were working with Adobe Systems, Oracle Corporation and Yahoo respectively. The trio went on a holiday to Ladakh. They had booked the trip through a travel agent and were pretty satisfied with the package. However, while there, they interacted with other travelers who had gotten more customized and better value trips. This seeded the idea and they started working on a customized Holiday Plan which later developed into TravelTriangle.[6][7][8] The name TravelTriangle was decided to depict the connection between three entities: travelers, travel agents, and an efficient marketplace. [9]

Business Model

TravelTriangle services are free for travelers. Travelers get quotes from multiple agents and TravelTriangle ensures that the trip is fulfilled as committed. Travel agents provide a minimal amount for every booking that is executed. A traveler can design a travel plan using the options available in the company website, based on destinations or interests, such as adventure, nature, and pilgrimage, among others. The company would connect the travel experts and travelers, and will provide three travel options for the holiday. Its business model is based on the use of deep technology to understand travelers preferences in order to connect them with a right travel expert.[4]

Funding

In July 2014, TravelTriangle raised pre-series A investment of $1.7 million from SAIF Partners.[10] In April 2015, Silicon Valley venture fund Bessemer Venture Partners, known globally for its investments in Yelp, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Snapdeal, and among others, led an $8-million second financing round in TravelTriangle. Existing Asia-focused multi-stage investment firm SAIF Partners also participated in this round of fund-raise.[11] SAIF Partners’ other travel industry investments include Makemytrip, ixigo.com, and Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces.[12]

Growth

TravelTriangle marked its growth by opening a new office in Gurgaon’s Udyog Vihar, the new office adds to TravelTriangle’s existing office in Noida.[5] The organisation was featured in Techinasia as one of the most promising Indian startup, poised for a breakout.[13]
