WNG570 (sometimes referred to as Horse Cave All Hazards) is a NOAA Weather Radio station that serves parts of south central Kentucky, including Horse Cave (its city of license), Cave City, Glasgow, Munfordville and surrounding cities and areas. It is programmed from the National Weather Service forecast office in Louisville, Kentucky with its transmitter located just outside Horse Cave just off Kentucky Route 218, and can be seen from many rural areas in Hart and northern Barren counties.
Broadcast coverage area
It broadcasts weather and hazard information for these counties in south central Kentucky: Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Grayson, Green County, Kentucky, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe, and Warren, as well as LaRue County in north central Kentucky.[1]
WNG570 also provides tornado and severe thunderstorm watches and warnings that are issued in the counties listed above, along with Butler, Logan, Taylor and Simpson counties in south central Kentucky, Hardin County in north central Kentucky, as well as Macon, Robertson, and Sumner counties in northern middle Tennessee.
WNG570 is the main NOAA All-hazards weather radio station for the Mammoth Cave National Park area, and the Cave City/Horse Cave/Glasgow area, all of which is part of a tourism "hot spot" in west central Kentucky. The western half of WNG570's coverage area is also within range of another weather band radio station KIH45, licensed to nearby Bowling Green, 27 miles down Interstate 65 from this area. That station serves some of the same areas as WNG570, along with areas farther west and northwest up to around Hopkinsville, and Owensboro. The northern part of WNG570's coverage area (i.e. Hardin, Larue, and Nelson Counties of north-central Kentucky) is also served by Elizabethtown All-Hazards Radio Station KIH43A, which serves the immediate ELizabethtown area.
Weather radio alert tone tests, otherwise known as required weekly tests, are conducted between 6pm and 7pm Central time Tuesdays, and between 11am and Noon central time Wednesdays.
