WSMV-DT2 is a digital television station that is licensed to and located in Nashville, Tennessee. Serving as the flagship station of the Heartland network, the station is the second digital subchannel of NBC affiliate WSMV-TV, which is owned by the Meredith Corporation. WSMV-DT2’s parent station’s studios and its transmitter are both located on Knob Road in west Nashville.
History
The subchannel launched in the summer of 2006 as an affiliate of NBC-owned Spanish-language television network Telemundo since the Nashville market lacked a standalone Telemundo affiliate of its own. The second subchannel was branded as Telemundo Nashville. The subchannel went defunct on December 31, 2010, leaving Nashville with only one Spanish-language television station, WLLC-LP (Channel 42), the area’s Telefutura (now UniMas) outlet. WLLC-LP has also added Univision to their Main Channel of 42.1, and has moved UniMas to 42.2.
The subchannel's spectrum would be used for purposes other than over-the-air broadcasting once the subchannel went dark. WSMV-DT2 relaunched on November 1, 2012 when it became the flagship station of the new re-incarnation of The Nashville Network. This move reflected the history of WSM radio, the former radio sister of WSMV, was one of the original founders of the original pay-TV-exclusive TNN when it launched in 1983. [1] The network was renamed Heartland in October 2013.[2] [3] [4]
News operation
WSMV-DT2 airs a replay of the 6 PM Newscast that was aired on WSMV's Main Channel at 9 PM. This competes against WZTV's 9 PM Newscast.
Availability
In addition to the over-the-air broadcast on WSMV-DT2, it can also be seen on Comcast (Xfinity) channel 230, and Charter Communications cable channel 91. [1] it is also carried on several cable systems throughout the Nashville media market, including on CDE Lightband channel 30 in Clarksville. In Kentucky, WSMV-TV and WSMV-DT2 are also carried on the Electric Plant Board cable system of Glasgow, Kentucky. [5] [6] However, it is not carried on any of Mediacom’s systems in the Bowling Green market.
