Wickham Transport Interchange is a future transport interchange being built as the terminus of the Newcastle railway line. It will also serve as the terminus of the Newcastle Light Rail line and an interchange point with Newcastle Buses services.[1][2][3]

Located in the inner Newcastle suburb of Wickham, it will be positioned to the west of the former Wickham railway station beyond the Stewart Avenue level crossing. It was scheduled to open in late-2016, but a legal challenge over the line's closure delayed the commencement of construction. It is now due to be completed in 2017 with major construction to commence in mid 2016.[4]

Transport for NSW have a released a flythrough of the new interchange.

Development

The design for the new interchange was released by Transport for NSW 27 July 2015.[5] The government purchased land adjacent to the transport interchange site in September 2015.[6] In December 2015, Transport for NSW announced it had lodged a proposal with the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales to have the station named Newcastle Interchange.[7][8]

Services

Wickham Transport Interchange will be serviced by NSW TrainLink Central Coast & Newcastle Line services to and from Sydney Central[9] and Hunter Line services to and from Maitland, Muswellbrook, Scone, Telarah and Dungog.[10]

Newcastle Light Rail services will operate through the Newcastle central business district to Pacific Park.[11][12][13][14]
