Women's World Chess Championship 2016 (knock-out)

The Women's World Chess Championship 2016 is an upcoming knock-out tournament, to decide a new women's world champion. It is the second world championship held in 2016, after the Maria Muzychuk vs. Hou Yifan match in March 2016.

The tournament will be played as a 64-player knockout type from 11 to 31 October 2016. The venue is not yet announced.

Qualifying tournaments

The players are selected through national chess championships, Zonal tournaments and continental chess championships.[1]

Qualified are:

2016 World Champion, runner-up and 2 semi-finalists of 2015 WC

2014 and 2015 Girls' Junior Champion

5 highest rated players (plays over 30 rated games) from average rating February 2015 to January 2016

51 players from Women's Continental and Zonal qualifiers

For Europe Top 14 of 2014 and 2015 of European Championship not already qualified (28)[2][3][4]

Asia (12): 2014 and 2015 Asian champions
